Assignment Description & Grading Scheme
The term case study refers to a method of analysis to better understand and learn from a problem. It examines a person, place, event, phenomenon, or other type of subject to identify key themes and assess the results of the case to help predict trends, enlighten issues that can be applied to practice, and/or provide a means of understanding an important problem with greater clarity.
Instructions:
1. By week 6, you are expected have selected a problem/case that relates to human resources management in a health care setting. Consult the Internet look for common cases faced in health human resources management. Please do not choose the cases we have covered in class.
2. Complete and submit by email to me, the required problem template for my review (the template is on page 3 of this document). You will get immediate feedback on the appropriateness of the problem/case you have selected. This will be worth 3 points of the total grade for this assignment.
3. You are expected to review your case and produce a summary of your analysis according to a specified format described below.
a. Your summary must be at least 3 pages in length, with a maximum of 5 pages.
b. Pages must be numbered and you must include a list of references.
c. The summary is to be typed, double spaced and you must use a regular 12 font.
d. It must be submitted to me in class on Week 8. Late submissions will be penalized by removing 2 points per day.
e. Ensure your title page identifies:
- our name and student number
- Title of the assignment
- The course code and professor name
- Submission date
f. Your summary report must include the following:
Introduction (6 points):
- Provide an overview of the case/ problem you have selected; the impact (on the organization, society, etc). TIP: start your introduction by something that gets the readers attention. Your introduction should answer the following questions
o What is the problem?
o What interested you about this?
o Why is it important?
o What was the attempted solution to the problem?
Discussion/ Analysis (12 points)
o history of the problem in health care human resource management
o current data about the problem and its impact
o challenges this problem creates for the organization, employer, employee, society etc.
o issues you discovered
o how the problem relates to the role of a human resources department
o possible solutions or ways to address this problem
Conclusion (6 points):
o Discuss how this issue should be handled based upon your research
o What this is case study prove?
o What have you learned from the case?
o How this assignment impacted your thoughts about human resources
management in health care and you own career?
Format, spelling and grammar (4 points)
References (4 points):
o You must cite and discuss a minimum of two scholarly articles in this paper you may use other sources but must use at least two scholarly references!
