AT1: Research Report Dr Ks Study

Background

Here, write a short introduction to the general topic of the research. This section should also clearly explain the importance of this research area for the reader. You will need to find and use peer-reviewed references to do this. The background section can also contain any key definitions of tricky concepts/terms if you feel they are required. Once the importance of the area is clearly explained, you should introduce the particular study the Dr has completed on this topic. A succinct summary of the key parts of her study should be presented to help the reader understand the study aim. The section should then conclude with the aim that the researchers study was trying to achieve (it is okay to copy/paste in the researchers aim into your report, but please note that all other information in your assessment must be paraphrased into your own words). We recommend using approximately 250 words for this section.

Understanding the studys findings

Here, write the main body of your report. This will be the longest section. You need to explain and contextualise the researchers findings within the broader literature on this topic. You will need to find and use peer-reviewed literature to do this. Further, this section needs to explain mechanisms underlying the researchers findings. This could come from theories or from logical ideas with evidence supporting them. We recommend focusing on one finding at-a-time to present the finding, its contextualisation within the literature, and its explanation of a mechanism altogether. Then, you can move onto the next finding and do the same. We will present examples of how to do this in seminars, so make sure you come along to class.

We recommend using approximately 700 words for this section overall, it should be the most detailed section of your report. It is similar to a Discussion section of a Lab Report, where research results are contextualised and explained within published literature.

Critique of the study

Here, write your critique of one key important limitation of the researchers study. You will also need to identify one clear, logical future study that could flow from the researchers study. We recommend using approximately 350 words for this section.

Conclusion

Here, write a brief paragraph to remind the reader of the researchers findings and to explain the real-world implications of these findings. We recommend using approximately 150-200 words for this section.
