Vocational Scenario | ASSIGNMENT PURPOSE: Domestic and residential buildings are one of the largest users of energy. Traditional energy forms are becoming unsustainable, too expensive and environmentally unacceptable. Either by regulation or demand, renewable sources and systems are becoming increasingly preferable and necessary and provide cost reducing and sustainable solutions and alternatives. The purpose of this assignment is to explain the various types of energy supplied, distributed and used and to explore how renewable systems can provide sustainable and efficient alternative solutions. SCENARIO: You are employed by as a Trainee Design Engineer for large property management development and regeneration company. The company manages a portfolio of more than 200,000 homes. Your companys portfolio includes low to mid-rise apartment blocks, two, three and four bedroomed houses, detached, semi-detached and terraced, and residential care homes. They are planning on building over 1000 new starter homes in the next 3 years using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and Offsite Construction. Your line manager has asked you to carry out an investigation into the types of energy forms and sources currently available throughout the UK and used across the wide range of housing types, sizes and communities. This will form the basis of a report you are to produce and present to senior management describing the environmental and economic impact of different forms of renewable energy for homes. Your findings should compare and evaluate the use of renewable energy sources in relation to their sustainability. You are asked to conclude your research and analysis with reasoned and argued recommendations for a renewable energy source for the companys future homes and residential buildings. | ||
Tasks | You are required to complete a presentation to your line manager on the types of energy forms and sources currently available throughout the UK and used across the wide range of housing types, sizes and communities. Where applicable this should be linked to the companys portfolio of building design types. The presentation should include: A series of well-presented Power point slides with supporting notes. A presentation of your key findings should then be given of duration approximately 15 minutes. This presentation should include the following content: An outline of the types of traditional and renewable energy forms used for domestic buildings How energy is distributed is used in domestic buildings. A description of the environmental impact of different forms of energy used in domestic buildings. An evaluative summary of the social, environmental and economic sustainability of a given renewable energy source which could be adopted by your company for domestic buildings. | ||
Checklist of evidence required | A series of well-presented Power point presentation sheets, inclusive of images/diagrams, should explore the key features of energy systems used for housing. Your chosen recommendation should be supported and justified with a well-argued evaluation of the social, environmental and economic sustainability of this source and supply. Presentation slides should be supported with additional supporting notes were applicable. A short 15 minute presentation should be conducted either to an external housing development advisor or your tutor. This will be assessed via a witness statement which will then be used to support the overall criteria awarded for this assessment. Presentation day will be after the submission date: 14/02/2025; to be conducted on Tuesday 25/02/25. | ||
