In the description section provide:

1). a purpose for the assignment (what will students learn through completing this task and why is that important? Who and what is it important for? How does it relate to the unit content? This needs to be no more than two or three sentences.)

2). an audience for the task - while this is ostensibly for an academic audience (the marker) think about who the audience might be for the task in a real-world sense. This adds authenticity to the task. For example, students might present information to a Grade 9 cohort, convincing them of the merits of studying literature. The language and structure students use for this task will be quite different than if they were writing for an audience of industry professionals on the pros and cons of publishing in different media formats.

3). a succinct and clear description of the task e.g. you are to put together a multimedia poster using a tool such as Miro on ethical practice in digital communication. Choose one example of unethical practice in digital communication thats been reported in the media to illustrate your argument, and one example of a practice that fulfils ethical requirements.

Description

This assessment task requires you to successfully complete the Safer Learners Module and upload a screenshot of the certificate or completion email along with a 100-word reflection on your knowledge regarding safer learners and how this applies to your professional practice. Please ensure you adhere to APA7 referencing style to correctly cite your references throughout the assessment task and provide a reference list if you are including any scholarly literature to support your reflection.

In the Specific Requirements section below include:

Any specific requirements of the task, here the focus is on HOW the students are expected to complete the task. For example:

Your multimedia poster on ethical practice in digital communications must contain the following:

  • A two-minute video recording uploaded to Panopto and embedded into the poster. In the video you are to describe principles of ethical communication practice and introduce at least one example of an ethical practice and one example of an unethical practice.

  • A three-minute audio recording uploaded to SoundCloud and embedded into the poster. In the audio recording you are to analyse the unethical campaign, illustrating why it fails to meet the principles of ethical marketing.

  • Text this can be a link to a pdf or Word document in which you provide a conclusion to your argument for ethical digital communication practice why its important and who its important for.

  • Graphics/diagrams/illustrations that meaningfully support the key points of your argument.

  • Links to the sources you cited

If theres a step by step process students must follow, articulate it clearly here.

You dont have to include all the nitty gritty detail here you can upload that into another page in the CloudDeakin site and point students to it from here but its important that students get a sense of what theyre required to do and how theyre required to do it.

If you want a cover page with specific information, include that here or consider developing a template for students to use and upload it into your Cloud Deakin site. If you do that, let students know about that here.

As you add them, cross-check that your specific-instructions above are creating the conditions that will enable and support the students to demonstrate that they meet the learning outcomes. For example, if a learning outcome requires a student to demonstrate teamwork, does the task create the opportunity for the students to collaborate with others in some way that you/your markers can assess?

This assessment task allows you to demonstrate achievement towards the unit learning outcomes. The ULOs are aligned with specific graduate learning outcomes that is, the skills and knowledge of graduates are expected to have upon completion of their studies. This assessment task is an important tool in determining assurance of learning and is a mandatory professional experience placement requirement.

The learning outcomes assessed in this task are:

Unit Learning Outcome (ULO)

Graduate Learning Outcome (GLO)

ULO1: Critically analyse and discuss their own teaching and learning practices with young children, with consideration of their own approaches to curriculum design, assessment, and teaching pedagogies.

GLO1: Discipline-specific knowledge and capabilities

GLO4: Critical thinking

GLO5: Problem solving

Rubric and Feedback

To link the digital rubric, follow these steps:

  1. Where it says 'add rubric' below, replace the text with 'AT# Rubric', and then highlight the text.

  2. In the toolbar, click the 'Insert Quicklink' icon (icon is a small chainlink).

  3. Scroll down and select 'Rubrics'.

  4. Select the rubric you'd like to attach.

The marking rubric for this task is available here -AT1 Rubric-and helps explain how this task enables you to demonstrate the learning outcomes.

It is always a useful exercise to familiarise yourself with the criteria before completing any assessment task. Criteria act as a boundary around the task and help identify what assessors are looking for specifically in your submission. The criteria are drawn from the units learning outcomes ensuring they align with appropriate graduate attribute/s.

Identifying the standard you aim to achieve is also a useful strategy for success and to that end, familiarising yourself with the descriptor for that standard is highly recommended.

Students who submit their work by the due date will normally receive their marks and feedback on CloudDeakin within 15 working days after the submission date.

Referencing

APA7 referencing style is to be used to acknowledge any work that is not your own with a reference list provided.

Submission

If the task has several parts or is a group assignment, you will need to provide explicit instructions for how you want the task to be submitted. Example 1: The group must submit one document into a group assignment drop box with all student names and IDs on the front page of the submission. Example 2: Each member of the group is to submit an individual copy of the assignment, perhaps indicating which part/s they worked on.

Make sure you upload your assessment file/s to the relevant assessment drop box on or before the due date to avoid any late penalties.

You must keep a backup copy of every assignment you submit, until the marked assignment has been returned to you. In the unlikely event that one of your assignments is misplaced, you will need to submit your backup copy.

Any work you submit may be checked by electronic or other means for the purposes of detecting collusion and/or plagiarism.

When you submit an assignment through your CloudDeakin unit site, you will receive an email to your Deakin email address confirming that it has been submitted. You should check that you can see your assignment in the Submissions view of the Assignment Dropbox folder after upload, and check for, and keep, the email receipt for the submission.
