Purpose

This policy outlines the Centres commitment to providing a workplace that embraces workplace diversity and inclusion.

The Centre values diversity and inclusion as a key people management priority Embracing a workplace culture of diversity and inclusion staff to feel safe and valued; leading to greater staff engagement, satisfaction, innovation, and productivity.

Policy statement

The Centre supports its staff by building an inclusive, culturally capable and diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve.

This policy has the goal of creating an inclusive culture that promotes the performance and wellbeing of our staff irrespective of family responsibilities, marital status, age, disability, race, religion, political beliefs, trade union activity, gender identity or sexuality.

The Centre is committed to eliminating unlawful discrimination, workplace bullying, sexual harassment and victimisation through modelling inclusive leadership, and promoting an inclusive and respectful workplace culture.

Service introduction

You have recently been employed as the Manager of Links Neighbourhood Centre in central west QLD, a not-for-profit community-based organisation. The Centre provides a range of services to the community including counselling, parenting support, financial literacy programs, support groups and inclusive social activities.

The community is diverse and your clients are mainly young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, older people and people who are socially isolated.

Diversity objectives

The Links Neighbourhood Centre 2024 diversity objectives include having 10% of staff as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Analysis of the results from the annual Staff Survey from 2020 to 2022 showed that the objective is not being met, the number of staff have been decreasing every year.

Promotional strategy

The Board of Management has created a Working Group to look at a range of recruitment strategies to increase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff. You are part of the Working Group and have the task of developing a strategy that will promote the Centres commitment to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander safety in the workplace.
