Case Study Analysis

The case study analysis assessment requires students to apply theory to a real-world example. The case study will provide a description of a particular business problem, as a basis for critical analysis, review and evaluation. All students will be required to analyse the same allocated case study (available on UTS Online) in an attempt to reinforce the applicability of theory to the practical situation. The analysis of the case study is to be presented in a modified report format (further details regarding format are contained later in this outline) and should be 1,200 words in length (+/- 10%). The report is to be submitted using Turnitin before 11am Monday 16th September 2019. The Turnitin link can be found in the assessment folder on UTS Online. It is your responsibility to check and confirm the submission dates and cut off times. It is recommended that you keep a copy of the digital submission receipt as proof of submission. Submissions not uploaded before the cut off time will be considered late and will need to be uploaded using the late submission link in the assessment folder on UTS Online. A late penalty will apply (see subject outline for late penalty details) unless an extension request has been approved previously in writing. Please note there will be no opportunity for resubmissions if your report does not meet the prescribed assessment standards. All reports must be prepared in line with the report format requirements as set out in this assessment outlined. Please ensure the research undertaken to support your analysis of the case study is of a high scholarly standard. The week 3 lecture will discuss academic literacy and the tutorial exercise will address what, why and how to find scholarly research. Research drawn upon must be cited in- text and in the reference list using the Harvard (UTS) Referencing Style. There is no need to submit a hardcopy of the assessment as a criteria-based online marking system (ReView) will be used to provide paperless marking and to return feedback.

Questions for Case Study Analysis

Thinking about the complexities of the real-life situation presented in the case study address the following three questions:

Issue 1. Identification of HR sustainability practices

Consider what human resource sustainability practices have been implemented by the case organisation. What makes you class them as human resource sustainability practices? For this first issue, you need to identify two or three practices to focus upon. Do not discuss the benefits of the practices but rather focus your attention on expressing to your reader why each of the practices you have identified can be regarded as a human resource sustainability practice (use literature to support your argument). You will be able to explain the actual practices and their benefits when addressing issue three.

Issue 2. Authenticity of the identified HR sustainability practices

Are the human resource sustainability practices identified in issue one ‘authentic’? Consider the extent to which the case organisation is being authentic or genuine in their efforts. Does an initiative create value and benefits for the organisation’s human resources as well as improving the business? When analysing the authenticity of each initiative you must support your argument using the literature. Sources should be used to enhance and support your idea or reason, meaning the sources need to be integrated into the paper. Every time source material is used, it must be analysed to form your own critical argument.

Issue 3. Contribution of practices to enhancing positive social & human outcomes for the case organisation’s human resources

From having considered issues 1 and 2 you should already be aware of what the sustainability practices are and how authentic the organisation is when it comes to the inclusion of the practices. Now for issue 3 you need to consider if any of the human resource sustainability practices already identified in issue 1 actually contribute to enhancing positive social and human outcomes for the case organisation’s human resources. You should not identify any new sustainability practices but rather analyse how those practices identified in issue 1 do or do not contribute to enhancing positive social and human outcomes for the case organisation’s human resources
