How do I submit my assessment tasks?
A maximum of two re-submissions will be allowed before the participant will be required to attend
further training. Any further training required may incur additional costs to the participant.
Where re-submissions have been requested, the final date for completion of the unit or cluster of
units will be extended. The extra time allowed will be negotiated between the participant and trainer/assessor.
o Incorrect, insufficient or missing answers to questions
oProject tasks are incorrect or incomplete or do not address the requirements of the project
In the following situations a participant will be given the opportunity to re-submit their assessment:
What happens if I dont get it right?
o All responses provided by the participant will be assessed by a qualified assessor with
current industry expertise.
o Feedback on each completed assessment task will be provided by the assessor.
How will I know if Ive done it right?
o Assessment Task 1 is to be submitted at the conclusion of the final training session for
this short course. It is a supervised assessment and work must be completed individually.
oAssessment Task 2 will be conducted no later than 14 days from the final training session.
oAssessment Tasks 3 to 4 must be submitted no later than 28 days from the final training session.
oIf additional time is required for submission, this may be negotiated by contacting the training co-ordinator no less than 3 days before the final submission date.

Specific requirements for individual tasks are provided at the beginning of each
assessment task.
All assessment tasks must be completed satisfactorily:

Where do I submit my assessment tasks?

Assessment Task 4 (and subsequent assessment tasks) may be completed and
submitted in one of the following ways:
Separate written document.
Electronic submission (MS Word, MS Excel or Adobe PDF format only). Assessment Task 4 (and subsequent assessment tasks) will contain external documents that must all be submitted at the same time in one of the following ways:
Bound.
Corner-stapled.
In a plastic sleeve, envelope or folder.
Secured with a rubber band.
Each response must be clearly labelled with the task number it is responding to. All pages must be clearly labelled with a page number.
The cover sheet provided for Assessment Task 4 must be completed and attached to all assessment documentation.
If your work includes a CD, clearly label the disk with your name and the short course name. Place it in a sealed plastic pocket, attached to the cover sheet.
Prior to sending any assessment work, make and keep a copy of your work as HIA will not accept responsibility for work lost in transmission.

Each page must be clearly labelled with a page number.
The cover sheet provided for Assessment Task 3 must be completed and attached.

Answers written in Assessment Booklet 2 provided.
Answers written in a separate document and hard copy sent via post/fax or electronic copy sent via email.

oThe participant is not required to submit any documentation for Assessment Task 2 as this assessment task is conducted and results recorded by the trainer/assessor.

4.0ASSESSMENT TASK 4 SUSTAINABILITY POLICY & REPORT
Participant Instructions
Tasks 4.1 to 4.6 are project tasks relating to Sustainability Procedures that are to be completed outside the learning delivery environment.
Research your companys or a company you have been involved with as a case study. Review and discuss the policies, procedures and global footprint, stating how you could reduce it. Develop recommendations for a sustainability policy in your workplace and write this policy.
Describe how you would communicate the policy to stakeholders and create one example of such a communication.
Write a set of procedures to implement your policy and document the methods you would use to track and monitor continuous improvement.
To review your policy, list the methods you would use to review the success of the policy and develop some KPIs and how they will be developed.
Prepare a report to provide feedback regarding the success of the policy and identify any aspect that needs revision to ensure continuous improvement.
Address all of the following tasks in your response.
Policies and Procedures Research (800 words minimum)
Many companies in the construction industry formally document their operational policies and procedures.
However some companies have operational processes that are not formally documented but everyone within the company follows.
Research policies and procedures documentation from your own business or a company you have been involved with. Where no documentation exists, analyse the operational process to identify requirements for policies and procedures.
Briefly outline the business or company you are researching including the type of business structure and size of the business, the industry it operates in and specific area of operation for the company within that industry.
Give an example of a policy from your own business or a company you have been involved with. Discuss in detail the purpose and desired outcomes of the policy. Where no policies exist in the case study business, provide an example of a policy that could be implemented into the business to improve business outcomes.
Give an example of a procedure from your own business or a company you have been involved with. This may be a formal documented procedure or may be a process that is generally followed but not formalised as a written procedure.
Discuss the difference between a policy and a procedure using you examples you have provided to help demonstrate the differences. Describe in detail what the purpose of each document is.
Provide details of any policies or procedures that this business or company has related to environmental management? If none exists, describe some work processes that the company undertakes where a procedure on environmental management would be applicable.
Note: Submission of the Class Handout Theiss policy documentation is not sufficient to address this assessment task.
Your companys global footprint (600 words minimum)
Source a Global Footprint Calculator from the internet. Use the calculator to calculate your workplaces global footprint. The link below or the Calculator Handout provided previously as an electronic resource can be used to complete this task.

List examples of stakeholders you would need to consult with to implement a reduction and what part each stakeholder would play in the outcomes?
Describe how you would deal with differing stakeholder viewpoints.
Using the information you have developed above, the next tasks require you to write a report for your company/case study. This report should be approximately 300-500 words in length and should be your own policy and procedure as applied to you own business or workplace.
Develop a Sustainability Policy
Describe your recommendations for a sustainability policy in your workplace. Cover likely effectiveness, timeframes and cost.
Write the sustainability policy in your workplace. Define the scope of the policy and the key stakeholders it will apply to, including what part they play in the policy.
Communicate (800 words minimum)
Describe the methods you recommend to communicate your policy to both internal and external stakeholders.
Create one example of a communication you could send to internal stakeholders. This could be a newsletter, email or a poster. Ensure you cover how those involved in implementing the policy will be informed.
Implement
From the policy above, write a set of procedures that will ensure improvement in resource efficiency or sustainability.
Document the methods you will use to track or monitor continuous improvement in Sustainability Procedures as well as version control.
Review the Policy and Procedure (500 words minimum)
List and describe the methods you will use to review the success of the sustainability policy and procedures.
Develop some KPIs that may be applicable and achievable. Detail these and how they will be measured.
Prepare a report to key personnel and stakeholders in whom you provide feedback to key personnel and stakeholders regarding the success of otherwise of the policy. You should include discussion of investigations you have undertaken to identify trends that may require remedial action.
Identify any aspect of sustainability policies and procedures that may require revision to comply with the organisations commitment to continuous improvement.
Please ensure you have completed each of the task requirements before submitting your assessment.
