Figure 1 (Safe Work Australia 2020) shows the number of bystanders (members of the public) who died as a result of someone else’s work-related activities in Australia in the five years to the end of 2019. In this chart, the term ‘vehicle collision’ implies that the deceased bystander was inside a vehicle that collided with another vehicle. However, the term ‘being hit by a moving object’ includes situations where the deceased person was a pedestrian that may have been hit by a moving vehicle.
