Instructions

In this assessment, you will explore the dynamics of feedback and delve into the challenges surrounding both receiving and giving feedback within your team. Why does the process often prove to be challenging for us? You will cultivate the skills needed to engage in constructive and positive feedback conversations, both in terms of providing and receiving feedback effectively.

This assessment is not a research report. The focus should be on demonstrating your understanding of the material and the key ideas by applying them to a leadership problem. However, your assessment will need to include peer-reviewed academic sources.Your main sources for references should be the assigned and recommended readings for this unit. Do not use Wikipedia nor reply primarily on web pages or blogs. The referencing style required for this unit is theAPA 7th referencing style. A reference list and the use of in-text citations are required. More details are available in the Referencing Guide on the Edith Cowan University Library website.

Step 1: identifying feedback conversation (providing or receiving feedback)

For this assessment, you are required to discuss a feedback conversation, where you provide feedback to someone in your work environment. The objective of the feedback conversation is to devise approaches that contribute to a win-win situation, enhancing both the productivity and interpersonal aspects of the work. These approaches may encompass various changes such as behavioral changes, increased engagement, fostering positive connections, improving performance, enhancing efficiency, etc. The available options for the feedback conversation are as follows:

Remember, prepare, prepare, prepare!

Step 2: Writing reflection

Please shape your reflection around the following key headings regarding the feedback conversation you have been involved in:

Background (Approximately 300 words):Provide a background to set the scene, including the following points:

  • Setting the scene: Clarify your relationship in the feedback conversation (e.g., supervisor/leader/manager, team member), and for how long have you been working with this person?
  • Describe the challenge & drivers: Briefly explain the key challenges/issues that resulted in this feedback conversation. Identify the drivers/root causes that resulted in the specific issue/challenge requiring feedback.
  • Describe the consequence if stays unresolved: Briefly explain the (potential) consequences - how it impacted various partners at various levels of the organisation, including the organisation itself. Describe the behaviours and actions resulting from the issue/challenge.

Reflection (Approximately 1400 words):Write a reflection piece considering the following key points, backing the argument up with evidence-based information and connecting the dots:

  • Describe the feedback conversation, Detail the content of your communication and evaluate whether the conversation was/is successful or how you will convey your intended message as either the provider or receiver of the feedback (future conversational feedback).
  • Reflect on the feedback conversation and how should it be conducted constructivelyHow did you prepare the feedback conversation? What did you say? Did you say what you wanted and needed to say? How did you feel while having the feedback conversation? How did the other person react?
  • Explore the connections between your findings and existing theories and research on leadership and feedback.Assess how the outcomes align with established principles and identify any new insights or nuances that contribute to a broader understanding of feedback dynamics.

Conclusion (Approximately 300 words):Discuss these points:

  • Provide some of the key points and lessons learned.Consider how your current method may shape your approach in future feedback conversations.
  • Explore the potential future implications of these actions and the specific stakeholders who might be affected by them.
