Instructions for Candidate:
Refer to the Assessment Summary Checklist to ensure you are informed of the expectations for your assessment requirements
Follow the ADDIE instructional design model to collect information and make appropriate decisions on the structure of the program. Document this process in a planning style format.
Detail the client scenario gather background information regarding the client, including need for training and target audience. You should include an explanation as to how (or from where) you gathered this information.
Identify a training package to use, and select the unit of competency or qualification that will meet the clients needs
Evaluate the LLN requirements of the training program and the LLN needs of your learner group
If possible, engage subject matter experts document this, where appropriate.
Document your training plan in a Training and Assessment Strategy
Use the template provided ensure that all fields have been completed
Break down the Unit of Competency to determine how your training program will be delivered
Use the provided session plan templates to document each session
Each session should have a determined learning objectives based on training package and client needs
Develop an assessment plan and create assessment tools and instruments. Ensure the rules of evidence and principles of assessment are applied in your development.
At least three different assessment methods should be used
A peer review/trial will need to be conducted. If you are unable to find a peer in your workplace to review/trial the assessment tools and instruments, utilise your fellow students in your class.
In addition to creating assessment tools and instruments for your selected unit of competency/qualification, create an RPL kit that can also be used by candidates.
Complete a Risk Control Plan to ensure your learning environment is safe for both the trainer/assessor and learners.
Design and document the training resources required for your training program. As a minimum you must submit:
Training and Assessment Strategy,
Assessment Plan including Assessment Instruments and Tools,
Mapping Matrix,
Peer Review Trial of Assessment,
Session Plans for each module,
Risk Control Plan and
Training Resources (resources for Learner and Trainer)
Submit your finalised training program. This includes the learning resources you will use to delivery your training session. For example: Learner Guides, PowerPoint Presentations, Student Handouts or Reference Material etc.
Deliver your presentation (2 x 40 minutes per session). You will do this presentation once you have completed all your online assessment and your assessor has signed you off on your Major Portfolio and deemed you ready to attend the Presentation Days. A Program Evaluation will need to be conducted during these Presentation Days.
Templates to assist your training program:
Training and Assessment Strategy
Session Plan
Assessment Plan
Assessment Mapping Matrix
Assessment Instrument templates, including RPL Kit template
Risk Control Plan
Peer Review Trial of Assessment
Program Evaluation (to be submitted after delivering presentation)
Note: While you have been supplied with templates to assist in developing your learning program, you will be required to compile other documentation as described in the instructions for assessment.
Assessment Summary Checklist
The following checklist are used to capture performance criteria, knowledge and skills that are demonstrated by the participant over the completion of the major portfolio assessment.
Where RFT is identified circle the specific skill that was not competently demonstrated and explain resubmission requirements.
Major Portfolio Assessment - Did the participant: S RFT
Complete the Training and Assessment Strategy by:
Identifying the purpose of the program
Clarifying the target audience
Specifying any learners special needs, including Language Literacy and Numeracy
Complete an analysis of the LLN levels of performance for your chosen unit of competency to the required LLN levels of the learners
Identifying any constraints, other than LLN, that may have an impact on delivery of the program
Communicating and collaborating with the client and subject matter experts
Sourcing a training package to suit the needs of the client
Analysing and interpreting the unit of competency to ensure the Training and Assessment Strategy complies with the requirements of the unit
Selecting an appropriate delivery method
Researching learning resources to suit the needs of the learners
Analysing and interpreting the unit of competency to ensure the Training and Assessment Strategy complies with the requirements of the unit
Identifying resources (learner/trainer/specific unit of competency) required to deliver the training program
Specifying how the program will be evaluated
Identified reasonable adjustment strategies that could be applied
Develop a Session Plan
Identifying the required learning outcomes to suit the needs of the client and fulfil the requirements of the unit/s of competency
Specifying the assessment requirements and criteria as per the assessment guideline of the unit/s of competency
Evaluating the contents of the unit/s of competency to break down the learning into learning segments and specified time frames for each segment
Complete a Risk Control Plan
Identifying hazards that may be present in the training environment
Determining the level or risk for each identified hazard
Determining the control measures/agreed actions to minimise the risk of the hazard
Develop learning program
Applying contextualisation of the unit/s of competency to the development of the resources relevant to the clients situation
Submitted the final training program and resources required to conduct the training. This includes Trainer Resources and Learner Resources that match the needs of the target audience and pitched at the right level for learners and AQF qualification levels. For example: Learner Guides, PowerPoint Presentations, Student Handouts, Trainer Handbook or Reference Material etc.
Adapt or develop at least two (2) of your learning resources to meet the identified LLN and other needs of your learners. Decide how you will evaluate how well these worked
Choose at least two (2) instructional design strategies to suit your learners identified LLN needs. Decide how you will evaluate the success of these during delivery
Create an Assessment Plan and Assessment Tools/Instruments
Navigate to training.gov.au to obtain and interpret the competency standards and other documentation to determine purpose and context of assessment
Determine an effective evidence type and assessment methods for the Performance Criteria, Performance Evidence and Knowledge Evidence
Choose two assessment strategies that cater for the identified LLN needs of your learners. Decide how you will evaluate how well these worked during the assessment
Select assessment methods (a minimum of 3) that allows for a range of options for collecting evidence and does not have bias, taking into account:
The context in which the assessment will take place (workplace and industry standards)
