Ground Rules:

It is important to set up some ground rules for your team. It is best if you make these rules explicit. They can be, for example,

When will you meet (in person or virtually)?

How will you communicate? What platform and software will you use?

When is the best time for you to work on this task (nights / early mornings / Sunday etc.)?

How will you resolve difference in opinions?

What will you do if team members go AWOL?

Planning your teamwork

Before you start working together it would be best if you decide on an action plan and that means:

decide on roles/responsibilities.

decide on a list of the tasks/activities to be undertaken and who is going to contribute to those tasks.

decide on the number of meetings and preparation work and study needed.

work out a timeline with clearly identified deadlines marked.

share what kind of team member you are, and an idea of your tolerance for those who don't work in the same way as you.

Remember, teams are made up of different types of people who bring different strengths to the team. Not every player in an AFL, or Soccer team is expected to kick goals, but all team members MUST contribute.
