Materials Selection Project Assessment
- Country :
New Zealand
Part A Research (10%):
From the group of engineering materials shown below: the students are required to select a suitable material for the material selection project
Metals
- Ferrous Alloys
- Carbon Steel
- Low-Alloy Steel
- Tool Steel
- Stainless Steel
- Cast Iron
- Aluminium Alloys
- Nickel Alloys
- Copper Alloys
- Titanium Alloys
Polymers
- Thermoplastic Polymers
- Thermosetting Polymers
- Elastomers
Ceramics
- Glass
- Cements
- Clay Products
- Refractories
- Abrasives
After the selection of the materials, the students also must provide specific justification that must be related to the following:
- Basic understanding of the chemical bonding for the selected material to align with the engineering problem
- Brief description of the atomic arrangement/configuration of the selected material
- Provide detailed description of the mechanical properties of the selected material
Part B Proposal (20%):
Present a Project Proposal in the form of a fully researched and professional report that can be presented and discussed with the Wintec Tutor.
Part C E-Poster (20%):
Produce an engineering E-Poster (using suitable illustrative packages/programs) that must outline the problem with proposed solutions
