Assessment information
This assessment provides the opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to contribute to implementing and maintaining work health and safety (WHS) consultation and participation as prescribed in legislation.
It also covers contributing to communicating relevant information, identifying feedback opportunities, and improving consultation and participation.
Project description
You will be required to:
Research your workplace policies and procedures for consultation
Research and identify roles, duties, rights and responsibilities of individuals or parties regarding WHS consultation and participation.
Survey the understanding of individuals regarding WHS consultation and participation in line with WHS legislative requirements.
Create information/training material that may be used to communicate workplace WHS consultation and participation process.
Compose a report to management to convey your findings and recommendations.
Performance Evidence
You must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, and to:
on at least two occasions contribute to each of the following, as applicable to own role and work area:
implementing and maintaining work health and safety (WHS) consultation and participation to ensure that required personnel are encouraged to participate
communicating information and data about WHS consultation and participation processes
explaining to individuals and parties the legal roles, duties, rights and responsibilities of self and others regarding WHS consultation and participation processes
creating opportunities for feedback on consultation and participation processes
identifying barriers to, and opportunities for improving, effectiveness of WHS consultation and participation processes, and to implement and maintain improvement measures.
Assignment Submission Instructions
All work is to be shared with lecturers via your OneDrive.
Please ensure when sharing you unit work from your student OneDrive account that you:
Do NOT send documents separately, combine into one folder
Title the folder with the unit No. e.g. BSBWHS412
Share folder to WHS Lecturers and not just individual lecturers (there is more than one marking!)
Task 1 Lect. only
Research your workplace policies and procedures which include reference to consultation.
Record the details of the documents researched in (1) in a suitable table, spreadsheet or similar document.
(Where there is no reference to consultation arrangements in any of your workplace documents, create an overarching consultation policy or procedure and submit with Task 3)
Research relevant WHS legislation and guidance material to identify the roles, duties, rights and responsibilities of two (2) individuals or parties regarding WHS consultation and participation.
For each of your two individuals/parties, record the details of your research in a table or spreadsheet, with the following information:
the legislative section
the legislative duties, rights and responsibilities relating to each legislative section Compare and record any gaps between workplace documents and legislative requirements in the table/spreadsheet.
Using the required information obtained in your research of consultation requirements and duties:
Create a suitable workplace survey to identify an individuals understanding of their:
Role
Duty
Rights
Responsibility
Assessment of the workplace consultative arrangements
regarding WHS consultation and participation. The survey will need to assist in identifying any potential barriers.
Conduct the survey with at least 3 persons relevant to the survey audience or workplace. (Survey must be submitted with assignment)
TASK 2 Lect. only
Create a suitable one-page poster/document to communicate to individuals or a team within your workplace (or any workplace) their WHS roles, duties, rights and responsibilities regarding WHS consultation and participation.
Create a training presentation (PowerPoint or similar), that may be used to communicate the following information about WHS consultation and participation processes to a group within the workplace. At a minimum, the presentation should include
Legislative requirements
Types of consultation
Ways that individuals can participate in WHS practices
Training opportunities
Opportunities to take part in WHS committees
How to access WHS data.
(This presentation must be relevant to your own workplace or a known workplace and assist in addressing any barriers identified)
Task 3 Lect. only
Compose a report for management, which details the result of the above tasks. The report is to include as a minimum:

Barriers (if any) identified
Legislative or organisational compliance and any non-compliance
Outcome from survey including any relevant WHS training needs identified
Your recommendations for improvement to consultation processes
Submit poster, presentation and survey documents to assessor via OneDrive.
