Exploring the Health Implications and Environmental Impact of Vaping
Introduction:
This project proposal aims to investigate the health implications and environmental impact associated with vaping, a rapidly growing phenomenon among young individuals. Vaping, the act of inhaling and exhaling vapor produced by an electronic cigarette or similar device, has gained popularity in recent years. However, concerns regarding its effects on individual health as well as the environment have also emerged. Through this project, i aim to shed light on these critical aspects, raising awareness among the general public and providing valuable insights for policymakers, healthcare providers, and environmental agencies.
Focus of Research (e.g., research questions / themes / issues to be explored):
Objectives:
1. Assess the health implications of vaping:
a. Investigate the short-term and long-term health effects associated with vaping, including respiratory problems, cardiovascular risks, and potential addiction issues.
b. Analyse existing scientific literature, research studies, and medical reports to understand the impact of vaping on overall health and wellbeing.
c. Identify potential differences in health risks between various vaping products and flavours.
2. Evaluate the environmental impact of vaping:
a. Examine the life cycle of vaping devices, including their production, usage, and disposal, to determine their environmental footprint.
b. Investigate the composition of e-liquids and their impact on air quality, water pollution, and waste generation.
c. Assess the carbon emissions and energy consumption associated with vaping compared to traditional tobacco smoking.
Methodology:
1. Literature Review:
Conduct an extensive review of scientific literature, published research papers, and reputable sources to gather relevant data on vaping's health implications and environmental impact.
2. Surveys and Interviews:
Conduct surveys and interviews with vapers, non-vapers, healthcare professionals, and environmental experts to collect first-hand experiences, opinions, and insights regarding vaping.
3. Data Analysis:
Analyse data collected from surveys, interviews, and literature review to identify trends, patterns, and potential correlations between vaping and health/environmental impact.
4. Recommendations:
Based on the findings, provide evidence-based recommendations for policymakers, healthcare providers, and environmental agencies to promote public health and address environmental concerns associated with vaping.
Expected Outcomes:
1. A comprehensive report highlighting the health implications of vaping, including short-term and long-term effects, addiction risks, and potential disparities across vaping products and flavours.
