MIS 413 Business Intelligence Assessment

1. Project Introduction:

The purpose of this project is to demonstrate your skills on apply a data mining technique, including
K-means clustering, Hierarchical clustering, Regression Analysis, or the text mining techniques
including sentiment analysis or the topical modeling analysis. Since it is a team project, you are
expected to work professionally as a team. Your teamwork will also be evaluated. Your report writing
skills will also be evaluated.

3. Workflow Required for Project Report

• Choose an interesting business problem/case study. Make sure to pick a problem for which
  you can find related data. Hint: Internet has data repositories such as
  • Kaggle: https://www.kaggle.com/datasets/ and
  • Saudi Open Data Portal: https://od.data.gov.sa/Data/en/dataset on which you can
    find interesting datasets.
• For the dataset, you must first describe the business problem. For instance:
  
  • You found a customer data and you want to find customer segments via clustering
    analysis; OR,
  • You have retail sales data with prices and other factor, and you wanted to use it to
    predict sales via regression analysis; OR,
  • You have customer reviews data and you wanted to see a change in sentiment over
    time.
• Conduct analytics: Reference: Data Mining Process - CRISP-DM Slides 4-21 to 4-23
  • Business problem definition
  • Data preparation
  • Descriptive analysis of historical data.
  • Describe the technique used and do appropriate model building.
  • Interpret and comment on the outcome of the results.
• Keep a record of meetings that have been held within the group and submit the contribution
  summary of each member at the end of the report.
