Description

How self-aware do you think you are? After going through the first four modules, have you understood more about your self? The purpose of this assessment is to help you achieve the intended learning outcomes ULO1-4 in the unit, specifically by:

  • applying concepts, theories, and frameworks introduced in Modules 1-4 in this unit for better understanding your self

  • evaluating the relevance of your learning in the intrapersonal skill modules to your discipline and professional goals

  • practicing the communication of your ideas to known audience in a rehearsed setting

  • acquiring important skills in academic writing and learn how to cite intellectual resources by applying APA7 referencing style

By engaging in this assessment, you will develop and apply academic skills to research, evaluate, apply, and communicate concepts and frameworks related to intrapersonal skills in an authentic, and discipline-relevant context. Throughout the assessment tasks, you will reflect on the role and importance of self-awareness (Module 1), personal traits (Module 2), goal setting (Module 3), and self-management (Module 4), in personal and professional decision-making, and identify strategies to enhance those skills.

Specific Requirements

In this assessment task, you are required to write an essay that demonstrates your understanding about self-awareness and various aspects of your own self. Below are more specific details about the two tasks.

Task A: Essay (maximum 700 words; 20%)

Write an essay about self-awareness by discussing the following:

  1. Discuss your understanding of the concept self-awareness.

  1. Analyse your self by completing the self-diagnostic tests in the Appendix. The tests help you better understand your:

  • Level of self-awareness

  • Learning style

  • Multiple intelligence and emotional intelligence

  • Level of stress (related to self-management)

  1. Then, visualize the profile of your aggregated test results across the four skill dimensions in a graphic, imagery, or table format. Be clear in your presentation of results and creative. For example, you can visualise the average scores using a combination of bar and line charts, a spider graph, pictures, mind map, or table.

  1. Choose one of the four aspects (self-awareness, learning style, intelligence, or self-management) to focus on discussion. Discuss whether you agree and feel surprised about the test outcome. Support your discussion with at least one personal example the example can be an event happened in the past, a characteristic about you, feedback you received previously from other people, etc. Discuss how this personal example leads you to conclude that the test results are accurate or inaccurate in reflecting your true self.

  1. Apply at least one theory or framework you learned in Modules 1-4 to support your analysis.

  1. Also, ensure that you have included at least three references from credible sources (e.g., articles on the reading list, peer-reviewed journal articles, practitioner-oriented articles, book chapters found on Deakin Librarys platform) in this Task A. You should properly format both your in-text citations and compiled an end-of-text reference list based on APA7 style (click on this link to download a relevant guideline document provided Deakin).

Task B: Self-Reflective Essay (maximum 300 words, 10%)

In Modules 1-4, you have learned about self-awareness, learning styles, intelligence, and self-management skills. You now acquire core knowledge about what these concepts mean, why they are crucial, and strategies that can be applied to attain or hone those skills. Now, write a self-reflective essay by addressing the following:

  1. What is the one area related to any of Modules 1-4 topics that you see as your strengths?

  1. What is the one area related to any of Modules 1-4 topics that you see as things you need improvement on?

  1. If you can do one thing to demonstrate your strength identified in #1 above to other people or leverage on that strength for success in your life, what would that be?

  1. If you can do one thing to improve the area you identified in #2 above, what would that be?

  1. What are the outcomes you anticipate attaining if you indeed take the actions you proposed in #3 and #4? What are the relevant strategies you plan to adopt for tracking your progress and success?
