Managing Innovation in Business
Module leader: Dr John Mariampillai
Assignment No. and type: CW2 - Individual Report: A full report comprising an action plan roadmap for development and implementation of the innovation capabilities of the chosen organisation: 3000 words
(+/-10%) Assessment weighting: 60%
Submission time and date: TBC Target feedback time and date: 3 WEEKS
Assignment task
For this second assignment, you are required to produce a 3,000 word written report (individual).
This assignment leads on logically from the findings of CW1 and students are expected to use the same organisation as CW1.
From your findings in CW1, you are required to develop an innovation road map that outlines the preparation of the innovation process. This will factor in the wider, operational environment of both upstream and downstream suppliers and service providers, whilst developing a fuller picture of the organisations full innovation capacity.
You will use the information collected on the chosen organisation in tandem with the material presented in the module to illustrate that you fully understand innovation management theory and practice. Your report will broadly cover the following key topics:
Key summary findings from CW1 (drivers of innovation from CW1, put in different words )
All issues from cw1 (3 issues )
rephrased from the way they were written in CW1 and related to the companys online retial business activities
For example
issue one
the company has some cybersecurity issues that are happening now. You would describe this in 150 words
issue two (discussed in 150- 170 words)
..
issue three (discussed in 150- 170 words)
a review of the future (i.e. 2023 and beyond) of the industry within which the organisation operates;
Future trend 1
Discuss the future trends that relates to the issue of cybersecurity
- discuss how in the future there is going to be stronger data (laws and technologies )privacy for
how do you talk about the future ?
it is expected that .
it is projected that
research shows that in the future
follow this up with research about the future
IT online companies
about cybersecurity future trend you could also discuss how in the future, hackers are going to be more advance in their abilities to steal data
150-170 words
Future trend 2
Future trend 3
an evaluation of the chosen organisations innovation requirements 2023 and beyond;
MVIS - here you are officially starting to apply the MVIS model
Stage 1 Days 1-15
innovation leader identifies the innovation gaps
innovation gap 1
this is concluded or arrived at by COMPARING issue 1 with future trend 1
i.e.
By comparing the current issues that the company has in relation to cybersecurity, that hackers are stealing customer data from Googles web sties, ( reminded the reader of issue 1) with the fact that in the future there are going to be more cybersecurity rules and technologies that will protect customers ( reminded the reader of future trend 1 ), we can conclude that there is an innovation gap relating to cybersecurity that forces the organization to innovate to create more secure products and services for customers
days 15-30
top leaders broad categories of innovation to address the gaps
3 categories of innovation
3 choices
Stage 2
a detailed and practical road map (using for example, MVIS) that helps build (future) innovation capabilities for the organisation in line with the industry trends identified (see topic ii) and the organisational innovation requirements (see topic iii).
Stage 3
Stage 4
This assignment has been designed to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your achievement of the following module learning outcomes:
LO 2 Analyse and illustrate how organisations and their leaders can successfully plan and prepare for innovation (Application of the MVIS Model of innovation in all of its 4 parts )
LO 3 Critically discuss the importance of organisational knowledge, knowledge transfer and cross functional co-operation in order to analyse and assess innovation capability and blockages;
Referencing and research requirements
