NRS276 Case Study Report

Include an introduction that sets out the overall structure of the report and outlines which Caritas Processes and elements of the ICN Code of Ethics (2021) are to be addressed in the report.

Question. From the 10 Caritas Processes, chose two (2) processes and explain how a Registered Nurse could apply them to the care of the person in the case study.

  • Developing and sustaining a helping/trusting authentic caring relationship (Development of a helping-trusting (human caring) relationship).

The Registered plays an important role in developing and sustaining a helping/trusting authentic caring relationship with the patient and family members. The Registered is the centrepiece of a patients care and it is required they communicate effectively with not only the patient but also family members and multidisciplinary team members. In Joshuas case the father is displaying early signs of aggression which means the situation can escalate in a matter of time if the registered nurse responsible of care does not act. The registered nurse must ensure they communicate effectively with Tony and explain the current situation clearly to avoid any possible misunderstandings. This will also show Tony that his frustration is being heard and acknowledged by responding to his concern in a clear professional manner (Sitzman Watson, 2018).

The Registered nurse needs to also communicate with the doctor responsible for Joshuas treatment not only concerning the patient but the safety and wellbeing of themselves, other patients and family members involved. This will ensure the doctor responsible for Joshuas care is aware of Tonys current frustration and may need to prioritise Joshuas care to prevent further escalation. Communicating Tonys concerns will at least provide him the reassurance that the doctor has been notified immediately on his behalf. This will enable Tony to feel acknowledged and gain further trust with the registered nurse (Sitzman Watson, 2018).

  • Use Creative Scientific Problem-Solving Methods for Caring Decision Making and Creative Solution-Seeking

The registered nurse can apply the process in using creative scientific problem-solving methods for caring by initially not showing any judgement towards Tonys anger and acknowledging his concerns. The registered nurse has a variety of clinical thinking skills that revolve around scientific problem-solving methods. For example, incorporating evidenced informed practice into this situation will help deescalate the problem through effective time management, keeping updated with hospital policy and enabling to evaluate research to understand potential risks or effectiveness of treatments (Sitzman Watson, 2018).

Question.Address two (2) elements of the ICN Code of Ethics for nurses and explain how they apply to the care of the person in the case study.

  • 1.3 Nurses ensure that the individual receives accurate, sufficient and timely information in a culturally appropriate manner on which to base consent for care and related treatment.

The registered will ensure Tony receives accurate, sufficient and timely information through acknowledging his anger and concerns and communicating them effectively within the multidisciplinary team in a timely matter.

  • 2.11 Nurses take appropriate actions to safeguard individuals, families and communities when their health is endangered by a co-worker, any other person, policy, practice or misuse of technology.

Question. From the case study, discuss what organisational resources could support the Registered Nurse in diffusing Tonys anger, and how do they relate to the chosen caritas processes?
