Clients travelling down to Sydney from Brisbane to marry in small intimate ceremony before heading overseas, so all paperwork done by long distance. Halfway here they called to say they had forgotten their birth certificates and there was no time to go back. It was complicated by the fact that they were having the ceremony in Sydney because grooms sister was terminally ill with only days to live and the family was gathered for the wedding. What would you do?

You arrive at the ceremony and are setting up. The grooms father comes to talk to you about the prayer that an invited guest who is the family Minister of religion will be reading. You have to date heard nothing about this reading. You consult the groom and he says whilst he doesnt want that to happen his father is paying for the wedding, so he says just let him do it. You also remember at your home interview with the couple both of them saying that was never going to happen. How would you proceed?

Case Study 1 Professional Ethicsfor Celebrants

Felicity Johnson is an accountant who works full-time for the Tax Office in Sydney. Two months ago, she was appointed as a celebrant by the Attorney-Generals Department. While Felicity enjoys her work as accountant, she hopes to work as a celebrant on weekends will assist her income and provide her with a joyful career balance. Working on a tight budget, Felicity does not own a mobile phone or uses an answering machine at home You sort of are obligated to call people back if they leave a message on your answering machine. If they cant leave a message, they will phone back until they get you. Its cheaper that way.

For the last two months, Felicity has had an advertisement running in the classified sections of the local paper that is distributed to Glebe and surrounding areas. As one of the first celebrants in the area, Felicity is taking a lot of bookings for weekend weddings. With the ad apparently working, Felicity is in the process of taking out a six-month advertising slot in the local paper because it is at a reduced cost. The ad lists her tax office phone number as her day contact and her home phone number for after hours and on weekends.
