Policy Challenges: Success and Failure Assessment
1) Identify systematic challengesexperienced by a particular group (forexample, people who have transienthousing; children who are placed in out-of- home state care,people who disabilities,immigrant women experiencing domesticviolence and so on);
(2) Synthesize what kinds of policiesaddressing the difficulties met by that particular group;
(3) Analyse what kinds of supports havebeen achieved under the policy frameworkfor that particular group to deal withdifficulties;
(4) Point out the arguments of how thosepolicies failed to better empower thatparticular group;
(5) Introduce an agency working in therelevant field and profile what you would do if you are a social worker in that agencyto practice with that particular group andwhat kinds of ideologies or theories youare based on.
Students can select to focus on aparticular group in any country.Studentscan refer to relevant literature (articles,books or news) to understand policies targeting for that particular group. However,students need to directly readrelevant policies to make in-depthreflection and find evidence to draw theirown arguments.This means that studentsneed to cite relevant policies in their essaydirectly.
Students can choose non-profit,governmental, profit agencies orcommunity groups to profile what theywould do asasocial worker there toempower that particular group.
Marking Criteria:
- The assessment will be marked inaccordance with the following criteria:
- Articulations of the difficultiesexperienced by a particular group in acountry.
- Explanations of why you focus on empowering that group.
- The synthesis of relevant policies and analysis of how they achieved or failedto provide support for that particulargroup you focus on.
- Demonstration of your intervention orpractice of empowering that group inan agency.Indication of the theories orideologies adopted by you to guideyour practice.
- Clarity of expression.
- At least 8 references including therelevant policies and academicliterature.
- Correct APA referencing.
