Assignment 5: Prepare a newsletter
Once you have worked through the material in Module 8, you need to complete and submit Assignment 5.
This assignment will test your understanding of how to prepare a newsletter.
Grading This assignment will make up 15% of your total grade for this course.
Instructions
1.Using your client for the semester, write and design a newsletter. Well call it a community newsletter and it is an external newsletter. If your client is a private company then it will be targeting customers. If your client is a non-profit, your target is donors keeping them informed about where their money is going.
2.Arrange a convenient time to interview the owner/manager to obtain information about the newsletter.
3.Write and design the first 2 pages of a 4 page newsletter page newsletter.
An interesting name for the newsletter (not Company Newsletter try something catchy)
Interesting graphical elements (photos, clip art or something of your design)
A purpose (or purposes) that is clear to the reader
A pleasing design
Use master pages to create page numbers, etcMarking criteria
You will be graded out of 100% based on the following criteria:
Document is saved as 4 page pdf using a standard 8 1/2 by 11 page size
The last 2 pages can be blank but should include folio (page numbers)

Purpose of the copy is clearly focused and newsletter contains information about the business/organization and what it is trying to achieve
Copy demonstrates accurate, informative, persuasive and concise writing
Graphical elements are included
Writing includes effective and appropriate headlines and subheads
Writing is free of spelling and grammar errors and adheres to Canadian Press style
Contact information is provided for the public
Marks will be deducted for each spelling, grammar and punctuation error.
Complete and submit the assignment
Work in InDesign
Export your document as a 4 page pdf (with spreads turned on) and upload to Assignment 5 in the Assignments page.
