PUBH102 Health Promotion Programme Assignment

Design a health promotion programme/intervention to address the chosen topic. Your programme/intervention could involve health education, a social marketing campaign, specific activities involving the target audience, organizational/government policy change, infrastructure delivery etc. It can involve one or more elements that contribute to the identified goal(s). Fewer elements and less complexity in your programme is encouraged, as it will allow you to go into more depth and detail. However you must identify both upstream and downstream determinants of your chosen issue and a brief description of how you could address each of these determinants. Your programme should then focus on two or more of these determinants. You must include in your plan how you will address upstream and downstream determinants. Your programme can draw on ideas from existing programmes/interventions, but you must appropriately acknowledge where these ideas came from, using references.

The rationale for the health promotion programme/intervention should be explained and justified based on the literature and research. You are encouraged to cite required readings and include concepts covered in PUBH102 as relevant to your programme, including (but not limited to) the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion, planning health promotion interventions, programme evaluation, behaviour change theories and concepts, social marketing, health promotion settings, determinants of health, health inequities, and community engagement. It is important that you draw on unit material so you can demonstrate that you have engaged with the unit content.

You are required to produce and submit a written report, which includes:

• Introduction (1 paragraph)
• Briefly identify your chosen topic and target group/setting (from Assessment 1)
• Introduce the programme/intervention, and what you will cover in the report

• Describe and justify the programme design, including:
  • an outline of upstream and downstream determinants of the issue and a brief description of how you would address each of these. Your programme should then focus on two or more of these determinants. You must include in your plan how you will address upstream and downstream determinants. Use the suggested table from unit material for this. Use the table outlined in the relevant workbooks and tutorials for this section.
  • the overall goal for your programme and a range of SMART goals
  • a programme logic model that will show how your intervention will achieve your goals. You must include a logic model diagram.
  • health equity considerations (i.e. how to ensure that the programme addresses health gaps between groups, and/or does not disadvantage particular people).
  • how the programme should be evaluated – you will need to include how you will evaluate your previously outlined SMART goals. You also need to outline how you will carry out process, impact, and outcome evaluation. For this, use the suggested template from the unit material.
