Assessment 2 planning

Read the assessment instructions and requirements carefully to determine the key terms.

To get you started, our librarians have created some sample 'saved search' to get the most relevant and recent scholarly academic resources from our library that you can use in your assessment. Start with the following examples of an AIB Library search and build on it with your own search terms. Also, try the same searches inGoogle Scholarand HYPERLINK "https://learning.aib.edu.au/mod/page/view.php?id=129475" t "_blank" scite_. Pay careful attention to the search terms and filters and how they can help you find supporting articles for assessments:

full text online

scholarly and peer-reviewed

published in the last five to ten years.

Scan the titles, abstracts and headings to find articles relevant to the assessment topic.

Search examples for credible academic sources

trust AND leadership AND changeWhat this search does is makes sure it picks up trust AND change AND that this area is combined with Leadership (leadership, leader, leaders). Use thequick lookoption to quickly scan if the article is easy to read and relevant. Click on thetitleto download the full-text PDF article for the ones you find useful.

Remember to keep the reference details of the article - you can extract this from the quote symbol. INCLUDEPICTURE "https://learning.aib.edu.au/pluginfile.php/167135/mod_page/content/26/quote.PNG" * MERGEFORMATINET

Snowballing - to see if the commentary article has been considered more recentlyGoogle Scholar enables you to see when an article has been discussed or considered more recently. For example, you can put in the article title from the assessment. As you can see, it has been cited quite a lot.

You canbrowse through or searchwithin citing articlesfor more recent considerations of this article.

You can also use HYPERLINK "https://learning.aib.edu.au/mod/page/view.php?id=129475" t "_blank" scite_to see the context in which the newer articles have considered the article. INCLUDEPICTURE "https://learning.aib.edu.au/pluginfile.php/167135/mod_page/content/26/scitelead.JPG" * MERGEFORMATINET

You can also use HYPERLINK "https://learning.aib.edu.au/mod/page/view.php?id=129475" t "_blank" scite_assistto ask for seminal articles on trust, leadership and change. Just remember to read the actual articles and not the just go from the summary.

Seminal articles and currency

Generally, your references should be contemporary and no older than ten years. However, there are older seminal articles that may also form part of your references.Seminal sources are research that made a large impact within a particular discipline and continues to be referenced in current research. You can check this by using the snowballing technique above.

Credible sources

As your assessment instructions advise, you are required to use a minimum number of credible academic sources. You can also use other credible sources to support your arguments, like ones from reputable websites like McKinseys, Forbes and EY. You can also use the same search technique. Please note that while HBR may come up during these searchesHBR (Harvard Business Review) is a ranked journal and does count to your credible academic sources and is available via the AIB library).

eg.trust AND leadership AND changeJust remember to evaluate the sources forcredibility. For example:

Who wrote or created the source?

What is the purpose of the source?

What sort of website is hosting the source?

Does the source contain references?

Reminder: Visit theAIB Libraryfor more guidance on finding credible academic sources and theacademic skills sitefor more guidance on credible sources for your assessments.

Task

Your task is to read two prescribed journal articles and build the commentary on the overall theme of"Role of leader's communication during an organisational change". Discuss the key points and main arguments in the two articles in relation to broader leadership theories and concepts, and extend your discussion by explaining the application of relevant theories and concepts to your own professional experience.

Procedures

Read the following journal articles on leadership:

Galbraith, M 2018, 'Don't just tell employees organizational changes are coming - explain why', Harvard Business Review Digital Articles, pp. 1-5.

Yue, CA, Men, LR & Ferguson, MA 2019, 'Bridging transformational leadership, transparent communication, and employee openness to change: The mediating role of trust',Public Relations Review, vol. 45, no. 3, p. 101779, DOI:https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pubrev.2019.04.012.

First, identify both articles' main ideas and arguments related to the overall theme. Then, use the following questions as a guide to help you draft your writing. Use these questions as a guide, and donotuse them as headings in your response:

What arguments do the authors raise concerning the overall theme?

To what extent do you (dis)agree with what the authors are saying? Use examples from your own professional experience to justify your answer.

Support your explanations/examples with links to other relevant theories/research/models from your wider reading.

How would/could you apply the theory/research/model in the role of leadership to improve your practical leadership capabilities?

After completing the first draft, check it against the marking criteria for this task (listed below).

Appendix 1 for declaration of use of Generative AI if applicable.Note: Table of Contents and Executive Summary are not required for Assessment 2

This assessment requires you to use the two prescribed articles in addition to your textbook, plus a minimum offive (5)additional credible academic references. Therefore, you should have a minimum ofeight (8)references for Assessment 2.
