Section-2
Report

1.Engaging Alison in Co-Development of her Care Plan

It is very important to develop a therapeutic relationship with patients suffering from anxiety and depression. By developing a rapport with such patients, they feel their issues are being actively heard and valued. They become more comfortable in having an open-ended conversation where they can share their challenges more easily (Hartley et al., 2020).

Considering the situation of Alison, who currently appears disengaged from the world surrounding her and is extremely hopeless that her life will improve, it is very important to provide her with a supportive environment. It will help her to discuss her thoughts and emotions related to her progressing depression more openly. I will ensure that her concerns are actively heard and validated to make her develop a bond a mutual trust with me. In addition to this, I will handle her with kindness and empathy as she mentions that she is feeling extremely sensitive and tearful to even small things which disturbs her mental state (Stefana et al., 2024). This will provide her emotional support and make her feel motivated to provide meaningful efforts in reducing her levels of depression. This will also encourage her to adhere to the treatment plans and regularly attend the counselling sessions to improve her personal and professional life.

2.Two Recovery Goals for Alison

Recovery Goal-1: To Improve her Mood, Sleep Schedule and Appetite

Alison mentions that she is struggling in keeping a positive mood followed by irregular sleep patterns and poor appetite. However, she feels motivated to improve her mood and develop a meaningful bond with her children. She also wants to improve her sleep cycle and nutritional intake that play a very important role in improving her depression levels.

To achieve this goal, the doctor has enrolled Alison in a support group where she can familiarize her condition with other patients suffering from similar conditions (Shariatirad et al., 2023). This will foster a supportive environment for her where she can openly discuss her thoughts and emotions with other people who will relate with her. This will also help in developing a social circle for her so that she does not feel lonely and distracted (Nurseslabs, 2024).

In addition to this, the doctor is also recommending her to join a clinical trial being conducted on a new anti-depressant. This will be beneficial in multiple ways. On one hand, a positive impact can be expected in uplifting the mood of the patient and on the other hand, it will help monitor the effectiveness of the new anti-depressant medication which can be used for the treatment of other depression patients (Gamaldo et al., 2020).

Recovery Goal-2: To Encourage her to Pursue a Degree in Accounting and Follow Other Hobbies

Alison also discusses her desire to pursue a career in accounting by completing an academic degree in this field. She mentions that she is extremely frustrated with her job in the supermarket. She wants to explore new avenues in her professional career. Apart from this, she even wants to explore new hobbies such as drawing, painting and travelling.

For this, she can enroll herself in a professional degree program based on accounting which will improve her attention levels. It will increase her self-confidence and ultimately improve her depression. This will also help in keeping her distracted from the suicidal thoughts of drug overdose, etc.

Alison can plan a short trip with her children to a nearby place where she can relieve herself from the stressful and negative thoughts emerging in her mind. This will also help her to improve her relationship with her children who play a vital role in providing her support and uplifting her mood. They all can join painting or drawing classes which will also have a positive impact in improving the depression levels of Alison. She will also become more attentive and concentrated towards managing her life in a better way.

3.Contemporary Mental Health Nursing Concepts

Strength-Based Care

This model of care involves working within the parameters that would help Alison to change for the better. The basic concept of this model is to identify the strengths and resources associated with Alison, which is crucial for her treatment. This model will be developed by using her motivation to improve her life and build a meaningful relationship with her children. This will not only be beneficial in enhancing her self-esteem but also regulate her emotions by exploring her artistic skills (Coffey et al., 2019). Moreover, employing support structures like family caregivers and other communities can help empower Alison and give her a sense of place which is very important for a healthy state of mind. Strength-based approaches promote positive health by focusing on what a person can do with his or her life by making changes from disability to ability paradigms. In this respect, this holistic vision can contribute a lot to improving the recovery process of Alison by offering her the opportunities to gain more independence and develop as a person (Li et al., 2024).

Person Centered Care

Analysing this case, it is crucial to mention that using the person-centered care model will help to acknowledge Alison as a person with her experiences and preferences. It integrates her into the planning process of the care since her wishes, and values are the ones to be considered in the process. When we involve her in decision making process, we increase her level of personal control which is critical in her rehabilitation process (Azizi et al., 2023). It has been documented that the more patient is involved in his or her treatment; the higher the chances are of a positive outcome and self-satisfaction. In addition, in person-centered care, relationships are formed between the health care professionals and the patients, which enables specific interventions that are responsive to the patients characteristics and wishes. It also reduces rates of non-compliance with treatment regimens while also fostering personal responsibility in patients health hence enhancing the process of recovery (Alison, 2024; Damsgaard et al., 2020).
