REFLECTION 1: WEEK 6: Indigenous Occupation

Consider how these will influence your ongoing learning and future practice.

Reflect on 2 key learning points for you from this weeks material (lecture or workshop).

Talk about how this information has influenced or affected you personally and how it may influence your future practice.

REFLECTION 3: WEEK 8: Occupation Justice part 2: Participation and Inclusion

Think about your learning this week. Discuss 1 issue or example from the media or your local context (personal or professional) related to the content we discussed this week and describe how this demonstrates the effect of the environment on occupational engagement and performance.

REFLECTION 4: WEEK 9: Occupation Justice part 3: Occupational Rights

Consider the role OTs play in understanding and advocating for the following and how the tools in brackets support this process:

Social and occupational participation to support inclusion and highlighting the consequences of occupational deprivation and social marginalisation (Model of Occupational and Social Participation Bartolac & Sangster Joki, 2018)

Advocating for occupational justice seeing clinical examples through an occ justice lens (Occupational Justice Framework, Wolf et al, 2010)

REFLECTION 5: WEEK 10: The World Around Us; Occupational Implications

Based on the lecture, readings, and participation in the debate this week, comment on one key insight you developed about patterns of occupation, how they influence time use and impact on our occupational engagement and our health and well-being. You may choose to reflect on one of the following:

Occupational justice and wicked problems

Automation and occupation

REFLECTION 6: WEEK 11: Sex and sexuality from an occupational lens

What are 2 key insights from this weeks material?

How did this weeks topic material further consolidate your understanding of the relationship between occupation, health, and wellbeing? What new insights have you gained that you will take into your future practice?

Word limit: MAXIMUM 2500 words which includes approx 350 words per entry. Entries can be of different lengths. The reflection questions need to be included in each entry and these make up 430 words so your actual submitted word count will be a maximum of 2940 words (2500 for your 7 entries PLUS the 430 words for the questions.)

Expectations:

As part of your assessment in this topic, you will be required to demonstrate regular and ongoing reflection. This will be done by way of maintaining and submitting a reflective journal for this topic.

For this reflective journal, you will be required to address weekly reflection points from week 6 onwards. Some of these reflection points will require you to reflect back on the material covered in weeks 1-5 and integrate this information with the weekly material. Most of the reflection points will ask you to include a reflection about your experience of the material and how it may impact on you as an individual and as a future OT. You are expected to reflect by incorporating real life and clinical practice examples into your responses. You are also expected to be creative in the ways that you demonstrate your understanding of and engagement with the material. You can do this through links to music, movies, books, poems, song lyrics, you tube clips, photographs or visual images. You can present your entries in any creative way you choose including pictures, images, poems, songs, videos, colours, diagrams etc. There is no specific template or set up required but please do include the reflective piece questions each week and then your response. I am happy for you to be as creative as you like. Each entry does not need to be a formal piece of academic writing. It can include dot points.

Your reflective portfolio needs to demonstrate that you understand the topic material and have integrated your knowledge. I am interested in you demonstrating applied knowledge and how you have made sense of the information discussed in the workshops including your reflections on the material. You will be able to display this by integrating the information with things you have read, things you have seen, anecdotes you hear, experiences you witness. Link these back to the material covered in class.

Referencing is only needed if you call upon a particular source eg website, book or journal article.

It is fine to say as discussed in the workshop today.. You are expected to use I and speak from your own experience.

You will complete a total of 7 entries based on weeks 6 to 11 AND a final entry responding to the question:

How will studying occupational science make me a better occupational therapist?

You are strongly encouraged to complete these reflections each week from week 6 as you go. End of semester is a busy time!
