Question.Inequities occur in schools at all levels of education and these can happen through the curriculum, teacher pedagogies, education policies, and schooling practices. By focusing on one of the above topics, discuss how education can contribute to schooling inequities. What are the ramifications of these on students, teachers, and schools? Draw on theoretical concepts used in subject TEAC7023 (Cultures, Subjectivities, and Schooling) in your discussion.
Question.Discrimination doesn't just impact the target of discrimination. It can shape the options of all people. What does this quote mean? Drawing on one of the topics above, explain how discrimination operates in schools. What are the implications for targeted individuals and others who participate in it or are witnesses to it? Question.Many of my students acknowledged and condemned the ways schools perpetuate various forms of oppression, but asserted that, as teachers, their jobs will be to teach academics, not disrupt oppression (Kumashiro, 2002, pp. 1-2 cited in Ferfolja et al., 2018, Understanding Sociological Theory for Educational Practices, p. 1). What does this statement mean and why is it problematic?
