Greetings, my dear audience! Welcome to our enriching podcast’s episode on Ubuntu Unveiled – Harmony in Humanity. I am Amy Stokes and today will lead you to the start of an invigorating rejuvenation towards African philosophy centered on ubuntu, an emphasis that addresses both people’s common wellbeing and their human dignity. Our research is beyond the boundaries of philosophy, which questions how ACU curricular approaches represent Ubuntu. As covered by Motsamai Molefe (2019) in his insightful piece “Ubuntu and development: An African conception of development”. In today’s episode of “UBUNTU PHILOSOPHY AS AN ARCHETYPE IN RESOLVING CONFLICT IN 21ST CENTURY AFRICA,” which was published in Journal of African Studies and Sustainable Development by Haaga (2022) we will discuss about Ubuntu. So, I want you to wear your headphones and follow me through the discovery journey.

Based on Motsamai Molefe's Reading 3, “Ubuntu and development: An African conception of development” we will consider basic features of Ubuntu and see how it affects us in our educational activities on a daily basis. We’ll now tighten the seat belt and discuss personal dignity, collective unity and interdependence between them.

In his second analysis, Molefe paints Ubuntu as a relational and dialogical philosophy. It highlights the role of human relations in building an identity and ending up by everyday truth. From this perspective, personal dignity is not a constant but rather emerges out of the processes of interpersonal confrontation and group evaluation within society.

In trying to bring those values back, it is vital that one appreciates the riches of Ubuntu thought in combining individual worth with common well-being as provided by Haaga (2022). Let us now connect this theoretical knowledge with our educational course in ACU.

In this part of show, we will discuss how Ubuntu is applied in at least two works within our coursework ACU. The detailed discussions and broadcasts regarding the personal dignity versus common right debate are yet to come on our podcast Ubuntu Unveiled – Harmony in Humanity.

Now we will start delving deeper into the nature of the concept, as well as its application within this course. Throughout your this journey, I am Amy Stokes your guide. To begin, we discussed the theoretical presuppositions underpinning Ubuntu, let us now implement it in different setting and provide a number of examples what some other authors apply it in our review at ACU.

Now let’s focus on the group work and collaborative practices that are included in our curriculum. This is an example of using Ubuntu ideals to achieve the appreciation for all that each member contributes in many ways as taught by Kankindi (2023). The success of the group and each person's educational path are directly correlated with the collective efforts and support of the community.

Let's now explore another aspect of Ubuntu at ACU, the mentorship programs. This relational aspect of Ubuntu transpires in these initiatives. More recent admissions engage in discussions and share experiences with senior students, faculty, and even former students. This inter-generational transition results in a shared sense of obligation and identity, furthermore, it is accompanied by shared responsibility, as also guided by Strozenberg and others (2015).

As we continue our process in ACU striving for knowledge, then let us be more attuned to the Ubuntu principles of relationships work and its reports. In the next section of this program, we are going to get some opinions from other students and staff members as regards to Ubuntu in action. On the other hand, watch out for a serious discussion and narratives of Ubuntu Unveiled – Harmony as Humanity.

At this point of our journey, we go deeper into true Ubuntu practices among ACU members. Let us listen to a number of voices from the campus as they discuss how they perceive and identify with this aspect of universal human dignity.

Let’s start with James Smith, a fourth-year student in Psychology. From his perspective we realize what new aspects Ubuntu offers in his education. Another significant part of his core curriculum is teamwork. We work together on organizational ventures, and I observed that in such situations, Ubuntu is considered. There is real support and fidelity where each individual’s share adds up to something. It is now more important to become good learners rather than getting the desired scores.

Wonderful observations! We are now going to discuss how Ubuntu connects with mentoring and orientation that takes place in ACU.

Throughout my time at ACU, I have witnessed that Ubuntu does not focus on teacher-student relationships alone. It is also beautifully ingrained in the philosophy of teaching. As teachers, try to establish a warm and caring atmosphere where each student’s unique traits are appreciated. According to my point of view, this leads us towards enhancing the education quality and further improving common good within our educational system.

We went through the basics of Ubuntu and we observed how ACU community is projected in it. To begin with, we will talk about the pros and cons of Ubuntu for our classes.

Actually, chasing after Ubuntu will create challenges of its own. An interview with Emma Thomson, a second-year Marketing student regarding the Ubuntu developed academic path and hurdles faced in their journey, will be discussed.

There have been times when the Ubuntu spirit has been eclipsed by the competitive character of academics. Occasionally, our drive to do better than our colleagues come in the way of the collaborative environment we wish to promote. It is a never-ending challenge to strike a balance between the expectations of the group and the individual achievements of each member.

On the other hand, it would not be difficult to establish that balance at once. We are interested in how ACU plans to overcome these hurdles and therefore expects Ubuntu approach to be successful.

ACU strives to foster an atmosphere where Ubuntu turns into a lifestyle, not just a catch phrase. At present, we participate in diversity and collaboration ventures that culminate to shared prosperity. We seek to instil the Ubuntu principle among educators by integrating additional community-oriented activities or discussions into their teaching methods.
