Week 1

For me to be able to understand the differences between inequality and equity systemic operation and systematic operation there is a need to understand the differences. My understanding this week is that systematic operation is derived from the intentional mistreatment that arises from a certain group. Systemic operation is therefore coming from a system which is considered as a combination of parts to form a complex whole such as organs in an organism (Chartas & Culbreth, 2021). The systemic operation can therefore be likened to how political economic and social inequalities are perpetuated and normalized within the community. I have also been able to understand the concept of inequality and iniquity when it comes to power. Power is considered an ability to control authority while influencing others. Individuals who have power tend to have an agency and capability to make decisions. The ability to make decisions does not mean that it is the free will of the individuals because this is heavily shaped by the social characteristics when it comes to factors such as class gender and race. Together with social inequalities power agency and other factors are conceptualized as theoretical frameworks which are affecting social workers. When I link this to my chosen industry which is domestic violence, I can understand how individuals in the society are facing social inequality and inequity. Women especially from different races tend to experience a lot of inequity by the oppressed people in the society. This is because a man is observed in society from a critical lens of race. On the other hand, I can identify that through social work the indigenous communities are facing a lot of inequity stemming from racism which is ending. Regularly I observed laws policies and other institutions within Australia going against the needs and social requirements of the indigenous communities. Power is one concept that I understood to be affecting the frameworks in which authority and influence are exerted within the community. Social theories show that power imbalances within the community are contributing to rampant cases of domestic violence. As a social worker, I'm therefore privileged with the ability to increase the prestige of disadvantaged people in society. I aim to make people suffering from domestic violence question their role in society so that they can fight for justice and equity in society (Chung, Anderson, Green, & Vlais, 2020). My role as a social activist is to enhance new liberalism by taking action in pursuit of social justice for people suffering from domestic violence. As a social worker, I am in a position to identify disobedience and disruption that is affecting people in society. The social work faculty therefore reprimand me to provide wisdom and prompt action to respond to various challenges of human rights violations that are observed in the community. Not forgetting that COVID-19 was an epidemic that created a lot of challenges in social work. Covid-19 affected interaction between the social workers and their clients. COVID-19 also created a form of stigma hence reducing trust between social workers and their clients. For that reason, COVID-19 is a pandemic that has ensured that social workers should adopt different modes of learning and reaching their clients. Remote learning is one of the factors that has been embraced due to COVID-19. My learning was not affected so much due to COVID-19 because I was able to organize and undergo online training which helped me in proceeding with my lessons effectively (Coomber, et al., 2021). As I conclude my reflection in week one, I have understood that empathy is very important because it makes social workers to be able to put themselves in the position of their clients and empathize with them to be able to solve their challenges, especially for domestic violence victims who are mostly children and women.

Week 2

My journey as a social worker has proved that social work is required for social change. Social work comprises of long traditional and recent development with other disciplines as I've come to understand. Nations such as Australia undergo a lot of social work education and framework which requires a lot of advocacies. This is because of the differences in terms of human services skills and abilities of different people within the society. Working with victims of domestic violence has given me a deeper look at the premise of thinking and taking action against social injustices within the community (Friend, Langhinrichsen-Rohling, & Eichold, 2019). This has given me a greater force to play with the expectations of my clients to face positive cross-cultural competencies that ensure a contextualized response for them. This one has enabled me to learn the process of working with people in the community. I have also come to understand that there is a gap in terms of knowledge. Child protection practices governed by the First Nations world views show that there is a need for a philosophical shift from the deeply ingrained colonial mindset and understanding of bias racism and weightiness. I have come to note through various theories that failing to draw attention when it comes to positionality then the social context is affected when it comes to treating identity and perceptions of the world. This leads to their risks of social injustices leading to inequality and multiculturalism as observed in society. As an individual, I have come to understand through this journey that practising cultural humility as a social worker will require a sense of self-awareness so that power imbalances can be redressed. Previous and personal professional experiences have also had an impact on influencing my practice and research (Gilchrist, et al., 2019). I therefore understand that I need to build a strong critical analysis of privilege to exploit and dominate the strong stereotypes observed within the community that are leading to domestic violence. I have also noticed that there's a lot of stigma through the social constructs that are observed in Australian society. The higher risks of globalization are continuously perpetuated based on the colonization agenda leading to uncertainty about child protection practices. Throughout my learning of this course, I have come to understand that place-specific conditions and practices are likely to create cultural dissonance and this affects renegotiation of social work identity and practices. Through practice have been able to gain awareness of the indigenous people by understanding the different contexts of colonization and the contemporary procedures and policies that are helping in child protection service delivery while dealing with victims of domestic violence. Continuous exploitation of ideologies and other concepts of state apparatus intertwined leads to a repressive ideological status that is observed within the community hence leading to domestic violence. This includes repressive state apparatuses that come from the ruling class to enforce its control and governance in terms of the administration of people within the community (Hashimoto, Radcliffe, & Gilchrist, 2018). This ideological apparatus finds themselves in public and private education systems family and culture hence leading to domestic violence. Their ruling class ideologies continuously oppressed the poor within the community leading to class struggle and social change as observed. People have no power in balance to exist even in their families. Power will always face resistance and this imbalance is what is creating domestic violence. For the social workers to better understand this it is important to analyze the various concepts that I related to power such as hegemony.

Week 3

I have come to understand that domestic violence dental affect all social workers. I have also appreciated the role of a social worker in interviewing in everyday practice with victims their families and even perpetrators of domestic abuse. I have been able to interrelate the knowledge and theory research and policy so that I am in a position to put practice across a variety of various label and service user contacts (Kennedy, Richards, & Leiman, 2016). My knowledge throughout this week has been drawn by my extensive experience as a student researcher in the field having studied a lot of evidence-based practice on topics on child production in the professional collaboration working with men and women as well as the policy and legal context. Multi-agency cooperation and collaboration are very necessary. I have also come to understand that using research in terms of informal social work practice is very necessary to understand the relationship of various victims of domestic violence. The Australian Association of Social Work requires that a social worker be committed to three values respect the person social justice and professional integrity. I believe I have managed to possess this whole values which have helped me to continuously endeavour to provide overall well-being to my clients. I understand that good values are very necessary in the human service industry hence I will continuously uphold these values. While I was growing up I was able to observe female relatives constantly being abused by their male partners. Because of this experience, I developed the desire and strong will to help happiness to this kind of abuse. The effects of domestic violence go beyond emotional mentor and physical. Victims of domestic violence need to be guided and provided with legal protection. They also require unconditional love because of the kind of hardship and abuse that resonates with their life. I have also noticed that most of the children who are victims of domestic violence tend to develop a lot of psychological vulnerability and risks. Through the various teams of multiculturalism empathy and social activism, I have come to understand how it is important to engage in relations and maintain family identity. Most of the gender perspectives and domestic violence are close to buy lack of identity within the community (Hackenberg, Sallinen, Handolin, & Koljonen, 2021). For that reason, most of the children who are victims of domestic violence suffer due to a lack of parental contact and identity. Arrangements in maintaining family identity are therefore important. I also noted that there are a lot of complex challenges and the numbers of domestic wellness tend to increase because of other factors such as drug and alcohol abuse. I have also noted especially for the Indigenous communities that an appropriate level of parental contact especially during child protection litigation is required. This is because there's a need to decide on the child's future placement which must be decided through parental consent. The legal systems that are in place are doing their best to ensure child protection. I have also come to understand the role of the police in domestic violence and I have critically reviewed the effectiveness when it comes to child welfare. Working with interprofessional collaboration as a social worker is very important because it helps in the examination of laws and policies in each context. About the three concepts of social work, my overall aim has been to ensure that I have the best interest of the child and victims of domestic violence. During this process, I have also familiarized myself with the statutory requirements, especially in the Family Law Act (Forell & Nagy, 2021). Meanwhile, I have noticed that poverty continues to disadvantage most families leading to domestic violence. Present research indicates that there is a direct correlation and relationship between poverty and cases of domestic violence. Poverty therefore remains a dominant factor that is complicating the roles of parents and agencies who are trying to mitigate child abuse and neglect when it comes to domestic wellness. Poverty remains a factor when it comes to child protection in Australia.

Week 4

Having obtained my training in an environment of evidence-based practice and philosophies I struggled with reflective practice when it comes to working with victims of domestic violence. However, it has been interesting for me to look at the historical origins of critical search. Critical thinking has helped me to question values and beliefs and this has helped me reframe my social work and logical reasoning giving me the ability to enhance my critical thinking and reflective practice (Jiang, et al., 2018). Throughout the course, my goal has been to seek the truth through the knowledge again to assist in my future practice. I have come to notice that progress in a case is a factor mentioned by evidence-based tools together with reflection on what is to be done and how it is to be delivered and perceived. Reflection has therefore allowed me to constantly get evidence about my specific actions on how they can be changed to produce value within society. I have been able to raise the idea of experiential learning and reflecting observation when it comes to social work practice. Through my ability of experiential learning throughout the course, I have been able to understand my role and experiences of situations we need to improve the lives of domestic violence victims (Skott, 2021). Through reflective observation, I have been able to cement my understanding of social work dynamics. These useful concepts have helped me to challenge my identity how I contribute to the relationship with my clients and how this is impacting my process of decision making. I have also been able to evaluate individual and structural power imbalances and how they influence my practice. I have been able to conduct a personal code on my effectiveness. True review and evaluation of my social work plan I've been able to see and link the impact of my influence to victims and families of domestic violence. Likewise, this has helped me to review my practices going forward therefore linking with other new developments and changing social inputs as required for the best interest of my clients. As a social worker, I would like to continue checking on incoming and outgoing social matters and conduct personal audits of social work to help in evaluating my practice. I am continuously exposed to beliefs and culture which influence my contextualization. I have grown up understanding male superiority questions and control from a natural background. This privileged status that is usually afforded to men is sometimes expected to be reinforced in society. However, they are also the main causes that have contributed to domestic violence. My justification for doing this course is based on my empathic and emotional determination to defend and maintain the position and values of children and women in society.

In conclusion, this reflective practice has improved my values and beliefs which are meant to fight power and control to force equality within the community. Reflective practice has helped me to change my beliefs and expectations and experience a motivational relationship based on sustained feelings of optimism and professionalism. Having understood the differences and similarities of the Indigenous communities my journey has made me aware of embedded and pervasive aspects when it comes to control and domination while working with families. I have also gained a lot of cultural considerations and understanding which are mainly guided through understanding of different worldviews from the different perspectives of the person's belong to their world. I have been privileged to enter different homes and to influence different lives of individuals. I respect the chances accorded to me to improve and change the lives of domestic violence victims through sustainable engagement and the provision of unconditional positive regard taught to me through concepts of social work theories.
