Research Methods Seminar: Quantitative Assessment
Maximum 2000 words (no +10% leeway). Using SPSS and APA 7th format style. Reference Hills (2011) to conduct and interpret the result (Hills, A. M. (2011). Foolproof guide to statistics using IBM SPSS)

To outline the steps you need to take:
1) Check the sample size to make sure you have enough cases to run a multiple regression state whether the sample size is adequate.
2) Screen the data using the raw data file on vUWS (e.g., check accuracy of the data file, missing data).
3) Assess and appropriately deal with univariate and multivariate outliers, should any be present within the data.
4) Assess normality/linearity/homoscedasticity/other assumptions for regression, but DO NOT do anything to deal with them. For example, if the assumption of normality is violated, say so and move on.
5) Proceed with your multiple regression analyses, and do not conduct any further assumption checks or modifcations.
6) You can choose whether to create APA format tables or whether to report your statistics in the body of the text. Tables and figures do not count in the word count. If you do make tables, place them immediately below the text that refers to the table. Remember, SPSS output is not tables. If you include tables, they must be in APA format.
7) The APPENDIX: Only your relevant SPSS output should go in the appendix. Do not put your APA format tables, figure, or references in the appendix.
TIP: You do NOT need to re-check for univariate/multivariate outliers or re-check for normality/linearity/homoscedasticity/other relevant issues AFTER creating the interaction term.
Remember, your report has a 2,000 word limit. While important, don't get too caught up in data cleaning and screening, as the most important aspects (see marking criteria) are the reporting and interpretation of the Multiple Regression analyses. Essentially, we are looking to see that you have knowledge of what assumptions need to be checked, how they need to be checked, and what you would do with them when conducting your own research.

The old instruction to reference
You are to check all relevant assumptions, and then conduct the corresponding analysis for each of the four tasks. You will draw the appropriate conclusions, and write up the analyses in the form of a Results section of a journal article and a partial Discussion. (Note: If you were to actually write up these results for a journal article, you would not report all four analyses. For the purposes of this assessment, however, please write one Results section incorporating all four analyses, and one Discussion section interpreting all four analyses.)
These Results and Discussion sections must strictly adhere to APA format, and are expected to be as clear and concise as possible. Include an appendix of essential SPSS output. The Discussion section needs to provide a nontechnical description of the results, including the status of any hypotheses and full conclusions with respect to the research questions. After reading your report, Dr Lang (who is not statistically inclined) should have a good understanding of what it all means and the implications for her future salary.
Please include your Results, Discussion, and References in a single document. Put your output in a separate document (Appendix).
You are required to include one Figure, which must be formatted in APA style. Place your Figure immediately below the analysis that refers to it.
You may either put your statistics in the body of the text or create tables. Do not redundantly repeat statistics in both tables and text. You are not required to include any tables, but if you do, they must be in APA format (not SPSS output). If you do use tables, place them immediately below the analysis that refers to the table, on a separate page.
