Task 2:
Case Study: Snowball Ltd is a company specialising in the design and completion of major projects throughout the UK. The organisations they are commissioned by includes: Local Authorities, SME enterprises, and - on rare occasions organisations such as large global companies. The company has been particularly successful since it started trading in 2009. Because their recent tender for a large major project has been successful and as part of a strategy of expansion, Snowball Ltd has employed you as a Project Manager to manage a one off special project. This project is concerned with the installation of ten new wind turbines, at a cost of 1 million pounds for each wind turbine, with the wind turbines located directly off the North East coast of England and open to all weather conditions. These Wind Turbines will produce energy for a new government investment of 50 million to build a new enterprise park and generate 30,000 jobs in the North East of England. The enterprise park is to be ready for use in October 2016.
As Project Manager responsible for the installation and start up of the new wind turbines, you are contracted at the feasibility stage. You are required to prepare a report (2,000 words). From aproject management perspectiveoutline the activities required to successfully manage this new initiative, ensuring that it is on time, and within budget.
The analysis should include the skills and competencies required by the Project Manager, along with the project management process. Use examples of the concerns, stages, processes, leadership, and administration and control problems associated with managing the lifecycle of this major project.
