Calibrating a thermometer
1. Fill a container with ice, then top it off with water to the top.
2. Place the thermometer in the ice water and watch it until it stabilises.
3. Take a temperature reading.
4. Place the thermometer inside a pot of boiling water.
5. After it has stabilised, take a temperature reading.
6. Carry out the procedure once more using warm water.

Stearic Acid

Arrange the apparatus as shown in the diagram, making sure the thermometer is not in contact with the boiling tube's bottom or side.
