Summary and Purpose of Assessment

This assessment task is the second of 2 assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit.

This knowledge assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to complete research activities and develop actions based on research outcomes for an issue within your own field of practice.

Assessment Instructions

What

Write a research paper (2000 words) based on a research topic you have formulated.

Research paper

For this task you are required to:

Select a topic related to providing patient care in your role as an enrolled nurse

Formulate a research question

Plan and conduct research, gathering information using a systematic approach (establish an electronic file structure)

Analyse information

Determine how your research be used to influence patient care

Your paper must be structured to include:

An overview of the topic

Research objectives (the purpose of your review, for example, why you chose it and what you hoped to learn)

Research method(s)

Results

Discussion

Conclusion(s) based on findings

Reference list (APA)

Ciite all sources of information using the APA referencing style

You must clearly:

Identify potential areas for change in current practice

Identify at least two issues that require further research/evaluation

Develop at least two actions to address outcomes of research

Where

You will be provided some class time to work on this assessment, however, it is expected that the majority of this assessment will be completed outside of class.

How

You will be assessed against the criteria as listed in the observation checklist in Section B of this task and how well you answer the questions asked by your assessor. To achieve a satisfactory result, you will need to address all criteria satisfactorily.

Use APA to reference sources (including alphabetising refence list)

Establish an electronic file system for and save research based on topic heading. Take a series of screen shots

Identify the method of research; qualitative or quantitative

Identify the research type; eg journal articles

Part C Analyse and use information

C.1 Methods

Outline the methods used to organise data and outline the methods used in the literature that has been reviewed, either PICO or PRISMA

C.2 Results

Outline of the findings including the search methodology, data extraction, reporting of results, any bias found.

Key concepts from the literature are identified and discussed

Has used evidence from references to support their own argument or statements

Can use a table to support analysis and discussion of results from literature

Compares and contrasts different parts of the chosen literature using different sources of information (eg 2 different papers, or information from a website and literature)
