SWB221 Assessment 2 Intervention Plan : Details

Overview

Task description

You will develop a client intervention plan, or a process for intervention with a nominated population about a particular social problem. You will include an assessment, intervention and evaluation section as part of your plan. Feel free to use headings.

You can create your own case study or use one from the literature or media. You can use the same issue from the previous assignment and build on it for this final piece.

This is an authentic assessment because you will be using contemporary case studies that you will work with in the future.

Length

2000 words +/-10% (word length includes in-text referencing and excludes your reference list and appendices)

What you need to do

You are encouraged to select a social problem that interests you and relate it to a group of people (population) that you are also interested in, drawn to, scared of etc. Try not to solve social problems as the expert but discuss how you could work alongside others to advance efforts to redress them. Ideally you will choose your own scenario but if you are finding this difficult you may choose a case study you find in literature. The following are some examples you could choose:

  • Young people (population) homelessness (social issue)
  • People of diverse sex, sexualities and genders (population) and homelessness (social issue)/violence (social issue)
  • Older persons (population) and elder abuse (social issue)
  • Indigenous children (populations) and child protection (social issue)
  • Women with a disability (population) and sexual abuse/homelessness (social issue)
  • Men with a borderline intellectual disability (population) and their over-representation in prison (social issue)
  • Unemployed/underemployed (population) and drug and alcohol abuse (social issue)
  • Single mothers (population) and welfare austerity (social issue)
  • Ethnically diverse (population, eg, young African men) and policing/crime/social disorder (social issue)
  • Women and children (population) and domestic violence (social issue)

Resources available to complete the task

Below are detailed instructions and resources to help you to submit this task. This is an intervention plan so you will have to identify your social issue and chosen population in the opening paragraph plus what is your role, ie, are you a caseworker, an advocate, a social policy researcher, a group worker, a community worker etc. You may use the same issue and population you used in assessment 1.

Assignment 2 marking criteria: 50% total

  1. Critical assessment with chosen population/individual in a case study scenario (10 marks)
  • Given your role, how do you understand the issues from a theoretical perspective, ie, using an AOP approach, what are thepersonal, cultural and structural issues?
  • what are the intersectional issues that you assess?
  • how would a risk assessment be done in your scenario and what are the strengths/limitations of that?
  1. Discussion of possible interventions/actions (20 marks)
  • how would you address the individual, cultural and structural issues and/or needs?
  • what critical skills would you use and how would you use them? Give examples
  1. Critical reflections and evaluation (10 marks)
  • Identify your positionality and note assumptions have you made about this target group/individual/community. What discourses have shaped those assumptions?
  • How might your assumptions based on discourses related to your chosen population influence how you will work with this social problem? Are there things you need to learn or unlearn?
  1. Integration of course material you must use material from the course. Do not google definitions or questions and use the literature that pops up as this is very obvious when marking. Use the textbooks and/or QUT reading material. At least 6 references are expected (5 marks)

5. Clarity of [removed]5 marks)

These questions are designed to get you thinking. Make sure you reflect on the content of the CRA to ensure that your work meets the parameters of the Unit.

A: At least 6 prescribed references need to be used

Q: Can you reference social media content?

Q: Can you use examples from other countries, such as alternative social policies or different programs or benefits?

A: Yes, we would welcome this.

Q: Can you write in the first person (eg use I)? Can I use headings?

A: Yes. It is your intervention plan so you are the worker. Yes use headings if you'd like to.

Q: Can I say that I personally identify with the group/population that I am focusing on?
