Task 2 Case Study
In 200 words, discuss how you would support the mother in the following case study. Would you use any of Mark Tyrrells techniques?
I ask Why? every day of my life. A scientist, my husband says that the accident was a random act and cannot be understood. Since I have had a more religious upbringing, I struggle to understand why my son was taken. I cant help asking that question in fury, and I am not alone. The other mothers who have lost children feel the same way I do.
Why? There is absolutely no reason why. Considering the legions of despicable people who take up space on the face of this earth while our children have gone dees any law of nature.
So I am left without any meaning in Tylers death. Nothing is better for it; everything is worse. Here was a young man who inspired people and had recently returned from Indonesia where he had helped victims of the tsunami a young man who was so transformed by that experience that he planned to spend two years in the Peace Corps before going on to grad school
Today marks week twelve of his death, and I am in the process of designing his gravestone. This simply should not be. Would that I could nd some meaning in this tragedy.
I, and my friends who have lost children, nd solace in maintaining bonds with them. I dont see how anyone could nd closure or acceptance. Not in the death of ones child.

Hongs much-loved grandfather, Huan Fu, was a source of wisdom, spiritual guidance, and a prominent source of connection to his Chinese cultural background. Huan Fu died at the age of 105 years, while Hong was overseas. Whenever Hong feels confused about the challenges that life throws him, he finds himself speaking aloud to his grandfather, and asking him which path he should choose.

What is your understanding of what is occurring in this case study?
In light of the continuing bonds model, if Hong came to you for counselling, how would you respond to him?
How does culture influence your perception of what Hong might need?
In your own experience of the death of someone you love, have you experienced a continuing bond with the deceased?
