Materials Access
All learning materials are provided in the form of a module kit and can be accessed from the Learning Management system (LMS)
Learning Hours
Students need to be aware of their commitment requirements regarding study time. To give you an indication of that, we have based the following information on the Malta Higher Education Quality Assurance Agency guidelines. The notional learning hours associated with qualifications, programmes and individual units of study are based on a broad agreement across institutions that students can expect to spend 10 hours learning on average in order to gain one academic credit unit (QAA 2006).
Re-sit
If you do not secure a pass when calculated from both the assignments, please read closely the feedback and speak with your Course leader(s) or faculty. After consulting the feedback, close attention is essential to rework on the areas of weakness, and then resubmit the work at the next opportunity. As per the QAA requirements, only one REDO is allowed where the marks will be capped at a Pass.
Plagiarism
All forms of plagiarism are taken seriously, and any suspected cases will be investigated thoroughly. If a case is found proven, then the work will be graded as a failure and the case will be reviewed by the academic committee. The assessment team checks the Turnitin before the evaluation of the assignment is undertaken.
Student appeals
There are no re-evaluations as the marks are graded and internally verified before release for both the assignments. Any dissatisfaction on the grades should be annotated in detail and sent to the course leader. However, this will not guarantee a re-evaluation.
Assignment submission extensions
Students can apply for extensions via the LMS based on extenuating circumstances (if any) with evidence (proof) as per our extensions policy.

Scenario: Your organisation, ABC construction group has made a winning bid to construct a new manufacturing plant. The client expects the plant to be functional within a year. You are assigned as the Project Manager to ensure that the whole project stays on schedule. The two important conditions as per the client contract are: -
ABC construction group will incur a penalty if the work is not completed by the deadline of 47 weeks from now.
ABC construction group will be provided additional incentive if the work is completed within 40 weeks.

For any given activity, its immediate predecessors (as given in the third column of Table) are those activities that must be completed by no later than the starting time of the given activity. (Similarly, the given activity is called an immediate successor of each of its immediate predecessors.) For example, the top entries in this column indicate that: -
Excavation does not need to wait for any other activities.
Excavation must be completed before starting to lay the foundation.
The foundation must be completely laid before starting to put up the rough wall, etc.
When a given activity has more than one immediate predecessor, all must be finished before the activity can begin. In order to schedule the activities, you have consulted with each of the crew supervisors to develop an estimate of how long each activity should take when it is done in the normal way. These estimates are given in the rightmost column of Table. Adding up these times gives a grand total of 79 weeks, which is far beyond the deadline for the project. Fortunately, some of the activities can be done in parallel, which substantially reduces the project completion time.
Formative Assignment (40 Marks, 1000 words)
Given all this information, please develop answers to the following questions in an essay format: -
Develop a project network diagram to visually display the whole project and describe the project network diagram. [10 Marks, 300 words]
Schedule the whole project with PERT/CPM. In doing so, you must be able to satisfy these crucial objectives [30 Marks, 700 words]:
Total time required to complete the project if no delays occur [6 Marks, 100 words].
The start and finish of individual activities to meet the project completion deadline [6 Marks, 150 words].
The start and finish of individual activities if no delays occur [6 Marks, 150 words].
Critical activities where any delays must be avoided to prevent delaying project completion [6 Marks, 150 words].
The delay that can be tolerated for other activities, without delaying project completion [6 Marks, 150 words].
