A brief example:
This award winning Eric Carle picture book features a caterpillar who eats its way through a wide variety of foodstuffs (over a week) before going into his cocoon and emerging as a beautiful butterfly. Because of the texts repetitive phrases and predictable narrative (which includes the concepts of sequential counting and days of the week) it can be used effectively with children in the Foundation year to practise phrasing and fluency and to teach and reinforce concepts about print.
