The goal of this assessment task is for students to demonstrate their ability to explain and critique homicide investigations and forensic science practices.
Format/Product Case Study - Homicide Investigation Review

Task Instructions
The parliament has opened an inquiry into each of the following cases and you have been asked to make a submission to the Legislative Assembly Committee as a criminology expert for one of the cases. This task requires students to write a review of the homicide investigation process involved inoneof the following controversial homicide cases:
The Josh Warneke Case
The Shirley Finn Case
The Kathleen Petereson Case
The committee has requested the following information:
What were the main elements of the investigation process involved in the case?
What were the major flaws, weaknesses or failures in the police investigation process?
Discuss critical suggestions for ways in which these investigative failures could have been overcome, and how they could be prevented in future homicide investigations.
Work submitted must be original and produced solely by the student. Students should develop and support their own arguments using evidence-based research and critical analysis.
