Academic integrity is taken very seriously at VU. Poor scholarly work refers to poor or no use of references to support your work, which will result in an educative response determined by the academic. The issue will be recorded on the VU Academic Integrity Register. Please note having another person, such as an online source, complete the assessment for you, using someone else's previous assessment, including your own previous work, may result in more serious consequences.
Students are permitted to use generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools as supplementary resources for learning, research, idea generation, and drafting processes. However, direct submissions of AI-generated content as ones own work, fully or partially without proper review, editing, and critical analysis is not allowed as this is work completed by a third party and not your own.
AI tools can be supplemental, they should not replace the development and application of clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills which are critical aspects of your course learning outcomes.
Any use of generative AI to assist in the creation of academic work must be transparently disclosed. This includes specifying the extent to which generative AI tools were used in the research, ideation, drafting, or any other stage of the work.
To maintain transparency and integrity, any academic work that benefits from the insights, wording, or ideas generated by AI tools must include an acknowledgment of the specific tools used. This acknowledgment should appear in the work's references or bibliography section, formatted according to the prescribed academic citation style of the discipline. The VU library provides advice on the appropriate citation of generative AI tools in their Referencing Guides opens in new window
Violations of these guidelines, including failure to disclose the use of generative AI tools or improper citation, will be treated as breaches of academic integrity and addressed in line with the VU Academic Integrity Policy opens in new window.
The use of generative AI tools must align with the principles of honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage that underpin academic integrity. Students are responsible for ensuring that their use of these tools does not compromise the originality and authenticity of their academic contributions.
