INTRODUCTION

Traditional diesel and petrol vehicles have long been the backbone of transportation; their reliance on fossil fuels contributes to air pollution and climate change. Electric vehicles (EVs) have emerged as a sustainable and clean transportation solution, especially in recent years when the focus on EVs has escalated and shown potential expansion for needing a high-efficiency DC-DC converter in their power management systems to ensure the electrical ecosystem within an EV works smoothly. DC-DC converters are intermediaries between the main high-voltage battery pack and low-voltage systems within an EV. DC-DC converters efficiently transform and regulate the voltage levels to ensure communication and operation between the cars subsystems. It will optimise energy utilisation and prevent the overloading of components within.

OBJECTIVE

The aim is to investigate the paper "Distinguished DC-DC Converter for an Electric Vehicle," 2022 6th International Conference on Computing Methodologies and Communication (ICCMC), Erode, India, 2022, pp. 578-582 on the performance of non-coupled inductor converters (single-ended primary-inductor converters (SEPIC)). It is to achieve a high voltage gain while reducing voltage stress on switches and assessing the efficiency and stability in different operational scenarios through simulations. The study will gauge the converter's ability to fulfil the high voltage gain requirements while mitigating voltage stress on switches.

APPROACH

1. To review the reference journal paper to gain an in-depth understanding of the proposed methodology.

2. To develop a simulation model by MATLAB for evaluating the performance of the proposed non-coupled inductor converter.

3. To collect data for comparison with the findings within the reference journal paper. Ensure the accuracy of the converter's behaviour and characteristics in the simulation environment.

4. To create evaluation metrics to present the data on converter efficiency and voltage regulation.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

1. To determine the converter efficiency through simulations of the proposed non-coupled inductor converter. Quantify the energy losses and efficiency gains achieved.

2. Analysing of waveforms and transient responses to identify potential instabilities.

3. Analysing the voltage level regulation within EVs electrical systems and evaluating how well the converter maintains consistent voltage levels to prevent overloading.

4. Validate that the simulation replicates the converter's behaviour and performance, as discussed in the paper
