Use of digital technology for literacy outcomes related to placement
Introduction/context
Provide an introduction briefly describing the class year level, student abilities and familiarity with using digital technology and rationale for using digital technology with these students for literacy learning outcomes.
The level 2 SL class was such a good class as the students were well behaved and easy to manage the class around those students, the students were flexible with ability to use digital technology, the students show the effective learning and such a good collaboration as the students know already what to do and how to use their laptops. As peer to their literacy learning outcome the student use digital technology in their writing communication skills in order to build their digital literacy skills as it was digital storytelling, as a study by (Eubanks et al,2018) has shown that the effectiveness of using digital storytelling into writing helps improve in students reading, listening and speaking as one of the language learner, also the digital hands in approaching to learn the language has met with positive attitude from the students and to contribution to more learning outcome. It was noticed that the student became more literate, and they were using their creativity and they were able to work together and took ownership of their learning outcome and they were highly motivated.
Analysis of integration of ICT/ digital technology in the lesson
Briefly summarise and analyse
- how you have demonstrated the integration and use of technology
- how it could be further developed
- supported by reference to academic literature and current research.
- In this class the use of digital technology was really useful and demonstrated in such a useful way where to the students and was engaging for the students to learning in literacy session and the first thing was by using ClassDojo on the whiteboard which enable the students to press on their character and add points, then by using a video clip to engage the students during teaching session then by the students to use school laptops as for their activity in order to demonstrate the integration of technology and use of technology I saw the change in students when integrational used the technology such as when using ClassDojo, watching a video clip also using their laptops as tool for the DT and this gave the students the encouragement for participation and engage during teaching session also the students become more motivated to participate and share, also the technology integration gave the students the ability to build their technology skills with connection for the educational active across the curriculum. As the research by (Taylor, et al, 2021)
Indicated that the use of integrated technology and the systems help in delivering learning analytics. As the students gain both literacy knowledge and skills of using technology for literacy learnings.
- It could be developed in future by achieving successful use of digital technology in both adoption and integration as the teacher may need extra support from the professional development that help the teachers in relation to design an effective process to provide teachers support and ownership also build knowledge to implement the integration and use of digital technology in their practice (Taylor et al, 2021). Furthermore, it could be developed by using quiz as an activity on persuasive writing and this could be done by using Kahoot as an education game which includes questions related to the literacy learning, and after they finish with the quiz, they will start drawing a picture of what they have learn from the quiz. Also, the digital technology could be developed in using a group video presentation, as this could build the students confidence in public speaking and build their speaking skills and organisational skills, we can see here that the students need those skills from childhood to boost their confidence in their academic future, because they are living in an digital technology world those days (Taylor et al, 2021). As well as it could be developed by improving teaching and learning motivation of the students with engaging the students to be interactive and create fun and safe learning environment such as integration the classroom practice with communicative digital tools for example digital storytelling, online forums and enable academic learning and exploring via multimedia, all those online interactions generate future opportunities in order to develop the digital literacy and to gain both 21st century skills and digital citizenship .Furthermore it could be developed by using google cardboard for literacy leaning as well, by using tablets can help develop the learning in primary to improve literacy learning outcomes and build their curiosity and prior knowledge at the same time (Oakley, Wildy & Berman, 2020) Also, the literacy leaning can be improved by using virtual reality as a digital technology for the literacy and English learning, it could be used for reading and support the students with their learning of reading, writing, communication, and use of language and this could be helpful for students with educational support and EAL student. English as additional language. Those students need extra support during learning and the digital technology can help them to build their learning and be at the standards level.
Analyse the 3 student work samples in relation to the learning outcome for the lesson:
what evidence is there in the work sample of:
- what the student learnt from the lesson,
- what they can do
- and what they still need to know?
Support with reference to academic literature and current evidence-based research.
- Digital technology helps the student to be an open-ended learner also they learn about problem solving as the students face a problem with using technology, they know how to solve it as they have gain problem solving skills. And the ability to identify the solutions also they learnt how to use their prior knowledge to build it up with using technology during lesson for writing and reading students were able to use school laptops in such a positive way to enhance their literacy leaning and develop it in a progressive way of learning and ability to learn more (Taylor et al, 2021).
- Student used laptops for their English/literacy leaning and they write a persuasive writing text with an introduction, three arguments and conclusion, then they were able to edit and r-read their work they were able to use their school laptops and they know how to login using their access codes and they can be creative in using such digital technology as they were able to add page borders to their writing and this showed me that they are able to rely on their prior knowledge and build it up, also they can identify the capital and adding comma and full stop to their writing when using word document so they can improve. Also, they know how to solve problems with digital technology use as some of the students had some issues with their device and they knew how to fix it and work on it which give them confident to use such technology in classroom. Even if some students do not know they ask and they can use the keyboard, saving files and printing also they were creative in using colours. The students knew how to open and close files using laptops mouse or touch screen. They knew where to put their digital technology devices back.
- Students they still needs to know how to print device to print their work after they finish typing their persuasive writing in order to put it in their publishing folder for a record, as I noticed not many student knew how to print their work and use printers also they still need to know about the folders and how to save their work as it is important in this age to learn how and where to save their writing for future leaning skills. Students need to develop their language skills with the use of technology for modelling software digital tools with exploring how to model software this will enable and enhance the inquiry-based learning. The students use those to pose questions, investigation and build new knowledge and understanding. Many studies have showed that modelling software can increase engagement and have better learning outcome for the students. (Taylor et al, 2021). Also, they still need to know about other software work such as PowerPoint and video recording those two skills are also important for the students to learn from now and in coming year, students can rely on their prior knowledge of using such technology and build it up. How to print their work (persuasive writing) is another thing to be in mind for those students to learn as they need to build this skills, for the students leaning as it can enhance and implement their technology skills also it helps their use of various kind of digital technology and the technology that is available to access, when the students have access to the technology with different kind it can motivate and increase their ability to accessing technology also, will increase their impart digital knowledge. And the required developing digital strategy use as it has been mentioned by the researchers that language learning and literacy learning relies on digital technology and tools in order to simplify the up take of vocabulary needs, maintenance and understanding (Hub, D.T, 2020).
Explain what you will need to plan and develop for the students in the next lesson in order to address the students learning needs and why.
Support with reference to academic literature and current evidence-based research.
In the next lesson plan, I would plan to use a book as a hook and a quiz using kahoot for literacy learning for the students to help them gain information and engage with their learning using digital technology such as learning, writing, and language. Using picture books and audios to enhance their learning and to improve literacy learning, and after that explain to the students what the process is then they will use their literacy thinking after that the students will read a book and use iPad to record their voices and listen to it as re-telling the story in order to identify the needs of literacy learning, and this will lead the students to become more literate and take complete ownership of their work. As a research by (Domnguez, et al., 2013) has highlighted that students learn through educational games, and it has been integrated in the teaching practices and lead to increase in students learning and motivation. Technology helps the student in learning and also in delivering learning information to the students. Also, success in integration of using the digital technology in classroom helps the students achieve their learning needs and process the information based on using their prior knowledge then to build up their curiosity and this will lead the students to have new knowledge build up and then implement their knowledge (Oakley, Wildy & Berman, 2020) Using digital technology which will enable the student to gain all the aspects of learning outcomes. Because the technology plays a role in improving the literacy learning and learning environment not just this, but researchers has mentioned that using DT in classroom such as using quiz gaming can increase students literacy thinking, and cognitive skills which includes symbols, ideas, and communications as well as problem solving. A study by one of the researchers (Vungthong, Djonov & Torr, 2017) has mentioned that the interactive visual technologist can help in developing vocabulary awareness and help the students in primary school to understand in much observational ways in both using computer or a touch screen device like an iPad and the determination of this study was to determine the relationship between language and pictures also how the video that includes song simplified the meaning making of the new words. All those helps the students to engage with literacy through illustration, picture books, and games as it develops their thinking of literature meaning, students to create their own story based on the education quiz. All those can help the students to develop their written and oral literacy knowledge along with skills of using technology which help in building up their literacy knowledge for formal writing and reading (McGlynn-Stewart et al, 2019). Also, digital storytelling can be a good lesson plan as it can benefit the student in many aspects of learning and their knowledge building. Because students at this particular age need knowledge build along with relying on their prior knowledge. Because it is a multimedia presentation for the narrative that has and combine a vary between media for example illustration of (image and photos) audios, video and an interactive elements in order to tell a story and help- the students understand the story and get the best output of it and this will help the students to understand text structure and re-tell the story in their own words and explain what is the story about as well as the meaning of the words and this will improve the students literature leaning outcomes. (Murray, Luo & Franklin, 2019, p. 58) has addressed the need for establishing a shared vision and technology integration plan, as well as shifting attitudes and beliefs, efforts to improve professional development. his help with professional development for the students learning and many researchers supports the idea of using digital technology in both teaching aspects and learning aspects. As a teacher my role will be not only to be outsourced to use digital technology or digital language teaching materials alone, and as a teacher to continue play a critical part in supporting students in order to contextualise and improve students comprehension of specific words.
This task is designed to build on your concept map from Assessment task 1. In this task, you will submit 3 components:
