Use of Predictive AI in the Olympics.
Use of Predictive AI in the Olympics.
Predictive AI is a form of Artificial Intelligence that uses statistical analysis to identify patterns in large data sets to anticipate behaviours and forecast future events. It uses machine learning techniques to make predictions based on historical data. Predictive AI is used across many industries, including for healthcare diagnosis, customer behaviour and sports performance predictions.
AI in elite sports competitions, such as the Olympics, has been at the forefront of using technology to better athlete and judging outcomes. Recently, AI has been applied in sport competitions worldwide to improve judging accuracy, better security and crowd management and personalised spectator experiences. While AI has helped to deliver fair and efficient elite competitions, there are also dangers arising from the use of AI systems in sport.
Your organisation, EliteSports, is the peak sports body advising the Australian Olympics Committee on new initiatives in AI technology in sport competitions. In preparation for the Brisbane Olympics in 2032, the Australian Olympic Committee is requesting research on how the committee can use AI to support the Olympics. You are employed as a new project officer who has just joined a small team at EliteSports tasked with advising the Australian Olympics Committee on the likely impacts of AI in the future.
Your recommendations are sought on decisions affecting the preparation for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.
The Australian Olympic Committee is keen to start research on the positive and negative consequences of using Predictive AI in sports competitions to make decisions and future work provisions to help conduct the Brisbane 2032 Olympics. They wish to start now which should ensure the use of Predictive AI technology at the Brisbane 2032 Olympics is implemented carefully.
Today you were told the person tasked with this project has unexpectedly left the organisation and is no longer available to advise you on the project. Your former team member did not start this project before they left. You have only 2 days to write a business report (Task 1) and recommendations (Task 2) for the Australian Olympic Committee to adopt.
Your manager expects you to use learnings from the local and global community and to use scholarly literature to inform your research report and recommendations.
Task 1 is to write a business report discussing the positive and negative impacts of Predictive AI use in sports competitions today. It is recommended your report focuses on the role Predictive AI has on various impacts in elite sports competitions. You are expected to give input into the following two issues: competition judging of athletes and spectator engagement experiences (both in person and remote). Multiple sources of information should be used to comprehensively identify the benefits and drawbacks of AI use from the perspectives of competition judging and spectator engagement.
You are expected to use various sources of information (at least 10) in preparing the report. The format of the report should include an executive summary and conclusion. The report should be approximately 1000 words in length (excluding the reference list or table of contents).
Task 2 is to develop recommendations from the drawbacks you identified in Task 1 and how we should mitigate them. Your recommendations should follow from the most important findings in your research report. Your recommendations should be approximately 500 words in length.
As the recommendations should follow from findings in your report, it is expected references are not necessary in Task 2. However, if there is new content in Task 2, sources must be referenced.

Specific Requirements
You will be required to select sources of information to write a research-based report responding to a situation given in a case study. To fully capture an authentic situation and experience, students will have only 48 hours to complete the assessment task over a designated period.
You will engage with the quiz function in CloudDeakin to start and track their 48-hour window. The quiz function will be open for 2 weeks (including the mid-trimester break), from 2nd August until 19th August. You can choose to open their 48-hour window at any time whilst the quiz is open.
Please refer to the How to access and submit the assessment video available on CloudDeakin located in the same folder as this document. This link will show you how to start the assignment (by accessing the quiz function in CloudDeakin) and how to submit your responses to the quiz as well as to the dropbox. Please note that you will only be able to access the case study and what is required from the task through the quiz link, not through the Assessments folder in CloudDeakin.
Once your 48hr period has elapsed, you will no longer be able to submit your assessment, so do not wait until the last few minutes to submit or you may be disappointed.
You are required to upload a document containing your responses to the tasks as one (1) single electronic Microsoft Office Word file or pdf file. It must be submitted through CloudDeakin via the Quizzes link AND in the dropbox (under Assessment - Assignments), prior to your deadline of 48 hours.

You must check and verify that you submission was successful (you should be sent an automatic email following submission).
No hard copy of the assessment is required and will not be accepted.
Learning Outcomes
This task allows you to demonstrate your achievement towards the Unit Learning Outcomes (ULOs) which have been aligned to the Deakin Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs). Deakin GLOs describe the knowledge and capabilities graduates acquire and can demonstrate on completion of their course. This assessment task is an important tool in determining your achievement of the ULOs. If you do not demonstrate achievement of the ULOs you will not be successful in this unit. You are advised to familiarise yourself with these ULOs and GLOs as they will inform you on what you are expected to demonstrate for the successful completion of this unit.
The learning outcomes that are aligned with this assessment task are:
Unit Learning Outcome (ULO) Graduate Learning Outcome (GLO)
ULO 1: Demonstrate understanding of sound information management principles. Students will use learnings from the unit to best to complete the assessment. GLO1: Discipline Knowledge. Students will use learnings from the unit to best to complete the assessment.
ULO 2: Analyse and synthesise information from multiple sources and to report findings. GLO3: Digital Literacy. Students will use their digital literacy skills to locate, appraise and synthesize information to develop the management report for the case study.
ULO 3: Identify the business value of information in personal management of information and decision making. Students will need to assess information for business value to develop the management report for the case study. GLO4: Critical thinking. Students will need to decide upon the relevancy of information from various sources for inclusion in the management report for the case study.
Submission
You are required to upload the assessment as one (1) single electronic Microsoft Office Word file or pdf file. It must be submitted through CloudDeakin via the Quizzes link AND under Assessments, prior to your deadline of 48 hours after the assessment was commenced.
You must keep a backup copy of every assessment you submit, until the marked assessment has been returned to you. In the unlikely event that one of your assessments is misplaced, you will need to submit your backup copy.
Any work you submit may be checked by electronic or other means for the purposes of detecting collusion and/or plagiarism.
After you submit the assessment to the dropbox, you will receive an email to your Deakin email address confirming that it has been submitted. You should check that you can see your assessment in the Submissions view of the Assessment dropbox folder after upload, and check for,and keep, the email receipt for the submission.
Marking and feedback
The marking rubric indicates the assessment criteria for this task. It is available in the CloudDeakin unit site in the Assessment folder, under Assessment Resources. Criteria act as a boundary around the task and help specify what assessors are looking for in your submission. The criteria are drawn from the ULOs and align with the GLOs. You should familiarise yourself with the assessment criteria before completing and submitting this task.
Students who submit their work by the due date will receive their marks and feedback on CloudDeakin 15 working days after the submission date.
Extensions
Extensions can only be granted for exceptional and/or unavoidable circumstances outside of your control. Requests for extensions must be made by 12 noon on the submission date using the online Extension Request form under the Assessment tab on the unit CloudDeakin site. All requests for extensions should be supported by appropriate evidence (e.g., a medical certificate in the case of ill health).
Applications for extensions after 12 noon on the submission date require university-level special consideration and these applications must be submitted via StudentConnect on your DeakinSync site.
Late submission penalties do not apply as it is a time limited task. The Unit Chair may refuse to accept a late submission where it is unreasonable or impracticable to assess the task after the due date.
Support
The Division of Student Life provides a range of Study Support resources and services, available throughout the academic year, including Writing Mentor and Maths Mentor online drop-ins and the SmartThinking 24-hour writing feedback service at this link. If you would prefer some more in-depth and tailored support, make an appointment online with a Language and Learning Adviser.
