Overview

For this assessment, you are required to write an article that would be suitable to publish on a Sport Science Blog website. The article will be similar to a literature review, however it should be written in a style that is easy to read and understandable to someone with only a small understanding of exercise physiology.
You need to review the available literature and then write a two-page article arguing for one side of the given topic: Lactic acid does/does not contribute to muscle fatigue. The aim of your article is to convince the reader that your point of view is correct, by giving evidence to support it while at the same time rebutting any evidence against it. Do not take a "fence sitting" approach by arguing both for and against, you must choose one or the other.

This is an individual assessment. Working with or sharing answers with other students is not allowed.

Instructions

You must choose one side of this debate and then write an article that convinces the reader that your point of view is correct. When writing your article, consider the below points:

Your article must be based on real science! Just like a scientific literature review, your article must be based on a thorough literature search of peer-reviewed published journal articles. Don’t use magazines, websites or other non-peer reviewed material, or textbooks. Always cite the original research whenever possible.

Provide supporting evidence. You must cite the scientific papers that you use in your article and provide the references. You can choose the citation and referencing method you think is best for your article but it must enable the reader to verify any statements you make and look up any original research papers you cite if they want to.

Aim for an appropriate scientific level. Your target audience are people who are interested in exercise physiology but who may not have much education in the area. Therefore, any complex topics need to be explained in easy to understand language which is also scientifically accurate.

Don't forget about readability. Remember that you are telling a story that should flow from one point to the next without abrupt jumps or disconnected sections. Spelling and grammatical errors detract from readability.

You do not have to include lots of images and colour, as a plain and simple blog post is fine. However, you can include graphs and tables if you think it helps tell your story.
Length: Two pages maximum (including figures and tables but not including references). Anything you write over the two page limit will not be read (references excepted) and you will
lose marks for exceeding the page limit

This paper provides examples of how to write a scientific argument. The authors had to choose whether they thought that blood flow does/does not limit VO2max. You will see an argument from the authors who think that it does and a separate argument from an author who thinks that it doesn't. Remember that you only need to write one side of the argument (either lactic acid does or doesn't contribute to muscle fatigue), not both sides.
