Assessment 1
You will write a concise project statement that will serve as a plan for your project report. In your project statement, you will introduce your project theme and the problem or opportunity you have identified within the case organisation (or industry) you have chosen. You will state the purpose of your research, identify contemporary business theories and analytical frameworks (methods or tools) relevant to the problem or opportunity you have identified, and describe the methodology and secondary data you intend to use to investigate the problem or opportunity.
Subject Learning Outcomes
Critically examine contemporary business theory and practices related to an identified enterprise (or industry) problem or opportunity. [#1]
Demonstrate ability to apply innovative approaches, techniques, ethical perspectives and the use of secondary data, to an identified enterprise (or industry) problem or opportunity. [#2]
Procedure
Use theProject Statement template (.docx)to write up your project statement and seeAssessment 1 example (.pdf).
1. Background
Briefly describe your chosen case organisation (or industry).
2. Theme and problem or opportunity
Briefly state thethemeof your project. Briefly describe your problem or opportunity faced by the case organisation (or industry) that you will focus on in your research project. Provide evidence to support the problem or opportunity in the form of references as provided in the Appendix 1 - Project Reference Map.
3. Purpose of the research
Outline an achievable and realistic purpose for your research, in 12 sentences.
4. Theories and frameworks
Business theory: List three (3) specific contemporary business theories closely related to the identified problem or opportunity. For each theory, briefly explain its relevance to the problem or opportunity (one sentence), and provide at least one credible academic source for each theory listed. Do not list frameworks, strategies, or models.
Analytical frameworks (methods or tools): List three (3) analytical frameworks that could be applied to analyse data. For each analytical framework, briefly explain its relevance to the problem or opportunity (one sentence), and provide at least one credible academic source for each analytical framework listed.
5. Methodology and secondary data
Case study research methodology: Briefly describe the methodological approach (i.e. case study research methodology). At least one credible academic source is used.
Secondary data: Briefly describe the secondary data proposed to be used for the analysis of the problem or opportunity. List the sources of the secondary data to be used (these do not have to be provided in the Appendix 1 - Project Reference Map).
References
This assessment requires you to use a minimum ofeight (8)relevant andcredible academic sources. You may also use credible company, industry, government and media sources (references) to support your statements, but these will NOT count toward the minimum required credible academic sources for your assessment. Many web-based sources are not sufficiently rigorous and credible for use in academic assessments and will NOT count toward the minimum required credible academic sources for your assessment. For further guidance, refer toScholarly, academic & peer-reviewed journals.
You must appropriately acknowledge all sources of information in your assessment following theAIB Style Guide. This includes the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT. See relevant sections on 'Academic Integrity', 'Generative Artificial Intelligence' and 'Referencing' in theAIB Style GuideandAcademic Policies and Procedures.
All credible academic resources must be included in Appendix 1: Project Reference Map. For secondary data you need to reference in your references.

In the second section, you will describe and justify your use of case study research methodology, provide a detailed description of the secondary data you will use, and explain how the analytical framework chosen for secondary data analysis was applied.
