Specific guidance
Understanding what is expected analyse the question.
When planning your assignment, it is useful to deconstruct the assessment question and marking rubric to see what the examiner is looking for you to include in your response. In this assessment task you are required to write an essay which has three components that need to be addressed. These components are easier to identify when you separate out the assessment instructions.
Lets review what the assignment question and marking rubric are informing you about what is required for this task.
The purpose of this assessment is to engage with a conversation between a community nurse and a client to discover strengths, identify what could improve for the client and their family (dream what might be) and co-construct a wellbeing plan. You will reflect on the process of a family strengths conversation considering the four foundational pillars and eight core values of strengths-based nursing and primary health care. You will use the Archie Sampson case study simulation to complete assessment 3.
Review the recorded conversation with Archie Sampson (add link to recorded conversation).
To successfully complete this assessment task, you will need to achieve three tasks:
ADDRESSING THE ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Assessment criteria 1: Critically analyse how the therapeutic nurse-client conversation demonstrates both a strengths-based approach and PHC principles.
To achieve this criterion, you may adapt the 3 questions from the Child & Family Wellbeing plan to guide your reflection on the conversation with Archie. When writing about the nurse-client conversation answer these three questions:
What went well?
What needs to improve?
What are you going to do to enhance your capacity to conduct a nurse-client family strengths conversation?
For this simulation learning activity write about strategies the nurse in the conversation with Archie could implement.
Assessment criteria 2: Evaluate the strengths of the client and family, emphasising client empowerment.
To achieve this criterion, you can identify 0ne or more of the four foundational pillars and eight core values of strengths-based nursing (see Module 3.3) and describe how they relate to a nurse-client family strengths conversation. Include at least one independent nursing actions that helps create a context where the family strengths identified in the conversation as being important to the client and family are empowered. For example, you could write a commendation for the client and their family. This section aligns to the Discovery cycle of Appreciate Inquiry that you will learn about.
Assessment criteria 3: Develop a plan of care that translates PHC principles through a strengths-based perspective.
To achieve this criterion, use the Child & Family Wellbeing Plan (available in MyLO and at the workshop) to develop a plan for Archie based on what you have discovered in the recorded family-strengths conversation. This section aligns to the Dream and Design/Co-construct cycles of Appreciate Inquiry you will learn about.
Assessment criteria 4: Adheres to academic writing principles.
To achieve this criterion for parts 1 and 2, you would need to address the following components:
Structure the section with an appropriate introduction, body, and conclusion.
Use topic sentences and paragraphs to present a logical flow of information.
Demonstrate the integration and synthesis of ideas that are supported with citation of appropriate academic sources.
Spelling, grammar and terminology are correct.
UTAS Harvard referencing style is used for the reference list and intext citations.
To achieve this criterion for part 3, you will need to develop a Child and Family Wellbeing Plan that is appropriate to a community clients health literacy skill. You will need to use plain English language and simple logical actions that a community client can implement without undue costs.
Provide a brief critique of how the nurse engaged in a family strengths conversation
Write a summary of the strengths of the client and their family discovered through the family strengths conversation,
Develop a Child and Family Wellbeing Plan simulate a wellbeing plan that can be given to Archie and his family and used to set and track progress toward shared goals.
This task requires that you present your work in three parts:
Response to task 1
Response to task 2
completed Child and Family Wellbeing Plan with Archie (simulation only).
Refer to the specific guidance section below for further instructions about what is expected and what you should do to ensure that you are addressing the assessment criteria.
