Research Assignment

Below are the questions for the 1003CCJ research assignment. There are 4 questions, each marked out of 10, for 40 marks and 40% of your overall grade.

You must complete every question. The total word limit is 2000 words. You can go 10% (200 words) above this limit with no penalty. You can also go 10% under, but we recommend you use all the available word limit to maximise your possible marks.

To answer the questions, you should rely on the core knowledge of law and government provided in this course, as well as your own research. In addition to the course textbook, you can rely on legislation, case law, parliamentary committee reports, submissions to parliamentary inquiries, academic sources, media articles (e.g. from The Conversation and The Guardian) and any other relevant, authoritative sources.

As a rule of thumb, you should aim for a minimum 8-10 research sources. When referencing, you should follow the APA7 format and include a reference list. The reference list is not included in the word limit.

Assignments must be submitted electronically and feedback will be returned within 3 weeks.

The questions will be marked according to the following criteria (= 10 marks):

• Accurate description of course content = 3 marks
• Evidence of independent research = 3 marks
• Critical thinking and reflection = 3 marks
• Clarity and concision = 1 mark
