– Social Work Interview role play

Students will be paired up for this exercise by the lecturer - in tutorial, some students may be required to take on the role of client for two role plays. Each pair of students will be provided with two practice scenarios in Week 9 - one for each student - which will contain information for the:
student in the role of worker in a specific practice setting/ context and the task, i.e., intake; explaining a social work service; short assessment
student in the role of client, regarding their personal circumstances, presenting issues to workers and client affect
Assignment Two Part B Critical Reflection
Students will critically reflect on their performance in Part A of this assessment. In order to do this, students will review their videos, reflect on their own performance, and obtain feedback from their role play partners. Written reflections should address the following elements of their performance:
- Critical reflection on communication & interpersonal skills – listening, micro-skills, SOLER, attending, paraphrasing, questioning, observation, establishing rapport, engagement
- Critical Reflection on relevant ethics, theory & practice standards - approx. 250 words; adherence to AASW ethical codes & practice standards and application of key theories
- Reflection on areas for improvement – key areas for development identified and feedback from ‘observer’ discussed
Students may use this as a template for their reflections or may opt to use their own structure.
Either is permissible, providing all elements are addressed in adequate detail. Students are encouraged to provide a rationale for their overall approach, including application of skills theory, and ethical principles.
