Moderation:
All unit assessments are subject to a robust moderation process. Note that results are not final until they are released at the end of semester and are therefore subject to change.
Task Requirements (3 steps):
Step 1:
Read the articles -
Article 1. 'Cross cultural communication: Tools for working with families and children' (Ladha, Zubairi, Hunter, Audcent & Johnstone, 2018). Available at:10.1093/pch/pxx126(Links to an external site.)The article should look like this:
Article 2. 'What is needed in culturally competent healthcare systems? A qualitative exploration of culturally diverse patients and professional interpreters in an Australian healthcare setting (White, Plompen, Tao, Micallef & Haines, 2019). Available at:https://doi.org/10.1186/s12889-019-7378-9(Links to an external site.)The article should look like this:
Step 2:
Each of your journal entries should address the following -
Summary Your summary should:
Identify the main issues from each article. That is, what does each article identify as problems, and what does each article propose as solutions? Consider how these contemporary solutions may be different to historical approaches.
Analysis- In your analysis of the two articles, consider:
How the strategies address (or fail to address) cultural competence.
Reflection In your reflection consider:
What have you taken away as good advice from each article?
Has the article raised questions for you? What would you do to address these questions?
Journal structure
Each JOURNAL ENTRY should have a standard essay structure of introduction, body and conclusion followed by a references section that incorporates a minimum of four (4) additional scholarly references to support your work. So, for each JOURNAL, there are two entries (each addressing one of the essential Articles, above). Then, for each entry, you will include the recommended article reference PLUS at least two others (both scholarly - if you provide more references not all of these would need to be scholarly, e.g., some might be newspaper articles). See Referencing & Scholarly Sources for more information.
In-text citations and end-of-text references should be in APA 7 Style.
Formatting
Document type: Microsoft Word document
Font type: Times New Roman or Arial
Font size: 12 ptLine spacing: double-spaced
Writing
Your journal must be written in an appropriate academic style, and with attention paid to grammar, punctuation and spelling. Visit the Academic Skills Centre link for resources and tips on academic writing. The word limitdoes notinclude references (i.e. your reference list), but will include in-text citations and direct quotes. Direct quotes should not exceed 10% of your word count.
Step 3.
Review your similarity report in TurnItIn. Aim for less than 30% similarity as a rule of thumb. The lower, the better BUT remember that the algorithm will pick up on references and possibly even the assignment question (your tutor will ignore these aspects). For more information on how to check your similarity score, seeAchieving Success @ ECUQuestions?
