Assessment Task
In small groups of two to three students, write a group report investigating, analysing and evaluating
sustainability management in a hospitality or hotel organisation of your choice (one per student).
Please refer to the Instructions for details on how to complete this task.
Context
Hospitality organisations are incorporating greener operations, giving back to the community and
advocating towards more sustainable business practices to ensure the survival of their business in
this demanding global market.
The purpose of this assessment is to report on the sustainability management of hospitality
organisations (one per student). These case studies will showcase your groups ability to investigate,
analyse and evaluate Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives against the UN Sustainability
Development Goals (SDGs).
Task Instructions:
To successfully complete this assessment, you must choose organisations from the hotel or hospitality
industry, either in Australia and/or overseas. In the case of a hotel chain, there is scope for discussion around
its international operations; however, a hotel chain functions as one organisation for the purposes of this
report.
You then will need to investigate and analyse the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of
each organisation relating to all or some of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) you have
encountered in the first five weeks (Weeks 15). Make sure to compare and evaluate the identified
initiatives; and where appropriate and available, refer to the results of these sustainability initiatives
with support of academic evidence and credible sources.
Attach the case study source materials as clearly marked appendices, where appropriate, with all
information relating to the case studies, including results, referenced.
Please follow the suggested structure below:
Executive Summary provide a one-page overview of the report (10% of total word count),
including setting the context, providing an outline and a summary of the key elements of the
report
Table of Contents
Table of Figures if any
Introduction present the selected organisations, provide the context of sustainability and
SDGs, and lay out an outline of the report
Investigation identify and analyse two (or three) hospitality organisations' CSR initiatives
and demonstrate how they align with SDGs
Evaluation compare the identified initiatives and evaluate which company seem to be
performing better, based on researched results
Conclusion summarise the report with its main elements
