The purpose of this assignment is to apply your communication skills to a difficult management situation. In this case, addressing the performance of your direct report while working as a team to complete a task.
The format of this assignment will be a report in APA format, organized according to the following structure:
Cover page
Introduction
Body
Conclusion
References Page
You will review the video and recommend a course of action including a difficult conversation meeting where you, as the manager, will meet to address concerns about their actions and performance.
A difficult conversation is a planned discussion about an uncomfortable topic or a negative experience. The conversation is made difficult due to high stakes, a difference of opinions and/or strong emotions.
This is NOT a general review of how to have difficult conversations but an analysis of the specific situation shown in the video and steps that should be taken to address the employees performance.
This assignment will be scored according to your ability to apply facts, clarity, use and understanding of communication techniques. Review the rubric for this assignment for a full breakdown of scoring criteria.

Identify one person with whom you will have the difficult conversation.
Your report should be constructed and address, as a minimum, the following:
Cover Page: include your name, title of the report, date.
Introduction: Identify the performance problem and the employee that you have chosen to address.
Body:
You will have a meeting with this employee to address their behavior.
What aspects of this meeting might make this a difficult conversation?
Plan your meeting. What is the decision you need to make? Describe what you need and how you would prepare for this meeting.
What is your recommendation for how to address their behavior, what steps can be taken? What is the desired outcome or action items from the meeting?
Write a script of the difficult conversation between you, as the manager, and employee. Include a minimum of 6 lines of the conversation.
Conclusion: What is the summary of the problem, proposed solution and any learnings that can be taken from this situation?
References: Include any other references you find to be helpful to the subject and list them in the references section in accordance with APA standards. (THE VIDEO needs an APA reference at a minimum).
This is a formal report writing assignment and should reflect that writing style, using full sentences and paragraphs. Graphics used must be source cited in accordance with APA standard at Conestoga, or may be created by the author.
This assignment should be a between 1000 and 1500 words.
Use a standard font; Times New Roman or Arial 12-point font in black font.
