Assessment Brief

You are a senior member of staff working within a major company in your chosen sector. You
have been asked by the managing director of your company to deliver a presentation describing
the problems related to staff recruitment that your sector is facing and how other similar
companies have addressed the issue. You have been tasked with giving an individual presentation
on the following topic:

Your presentation should be 10 minutes in length and should be assisted with PowerPoint slides.
Within your presentation, you should:

  • Explain the current problems related to recruitment and retention of staff facing your
    chosen sector in a clear and detailed way. You should use reliable information from
    academic sources. Your supporting evidence should be accurately referenced using the
    Harvard style.
  • Provide a summary of how one specific organisation has addressed this problem and make
    recommendations based on what can be learned from them. Use one of the sources from
    the recommended reading in addition to your own research to do this.
  • Deliver your briefing with confidence and credibility, using no more than five Powerpoint
    slides (not including the reference list slide). Ensure your slides are well structured and
    designed. Ensure you provide citations and references to evidence your briefing. Speak
    with confidence and clarity.

First class (70% and above):


Students will provide an excellent/outstanding presentation, demonstrating exceptional levels of
deep knowledge regarding the challenges faced by their chosen sector and how this has also
affected an existing and relevant organisation. Their summary of an existing organisation will show
an excellent understanding of how current recruitment issues were addressed by the organisation.
The student will use this deep understanding to make recommendations for the sector moving
forward. Reference to their sources will be made throughout. Students will be confident, credible,
and engaging in their oral presentation. Slides will be branded and highly professional in their
design.

Upper Second Class 2(1) (60-69%):


Students will provide a very good presentation, demonstrating wide knowledge of the recruitment
challenges faced by their chosen sector. Their summary of an existing organisation will show a good
understanding of how current recruitment issues were addressed by the organisation. The student
will use their understanding to make credible recommendations for the sector moving forward.
Examples of practice and references to their sources will be made throughout. Presentation will be
confident and will demonstrate a professional approach. Slides will be professional and easy to
follow.

Lower Second Class 2(2) (50-59%):


Students will provide a generally good presentation, demonstrating basic knowledge of the current
recruitment challenges facing their chosen sector. Their summary of an existing organisation will
show a generally good understanding of how current recruitment issues were addressed by the
organisation. The student will begin to make some generally clear recommendations for the sector
moving forward. Examples of practice and references to their sources will be made in some places.
Presentation will be reasonably easy to follow and engage with, and slides will assist in supporting
the brief and be of a satisfactory standard.

Third class (40-49%):


Students will provide a generally satisfactory presentation, demonstrating the minimum level of
knowledge regarding the recruitment challenges facing their chosen sector and a satisfactory ability
to summarise how an existing organisation has chosen to address these challenges. The student
may attempt to make some recommendations, many of which are of a satisfactory quality.
Examples of practice and references to their sources will be made occasionally. Slides will be of a
basic standard.
